Hi guys! I am very new here and would really like some advice or insights since I'm feeling a little lost.
I applied for an extension (I am still in canada and my current permit expires on september 30th, 2020) for my study permit in February but the process of eligibility have yet to start. In the application I have mentioned that "more time is needed due to unforeseeable medical issue", because I had a VP shunt implant surgery done in 2018.
my question is, does that matter much for study permit extension? I am doing very well health wise and academic wise currently, and the chance of replacing the shunt within ten years is very low.
If it says the eligbility check hasnt started yet, does that mean they have yet to look over my files? I only received updates right when I submitted the files that they had received it.
Thanks in advance!

I applied for extension Feb 25 (My study permit expired on March 31). There is nothing complicated in my file and yet they haven't started reviewing my file yet. And I almost done with my program and soon will be graduating. Will be unable to apply for PGWP or can't work until WP is issued.

ugh, this is making me so anxious. the agent today said it could be because they received a lot of applications around the time i submitted it. let's keep each other updated!

Sure thing. I know few of my friends applied in Feb and March still waiting. But many who applied recently got their extensions like within days. May be there are looking for the additional restoration amount

I almost want to cancel that application and apply again cause apparently people who applied after me got updates. I feel like they are processing the applications backwards through time.

Yeah..I was also thinking of that idea but since I am graduating soon, I don't know whether it will be a good move. But I do hear sometimes that people reapply again gets their permit approved (don't know details surrounding it).
Here is my plan: my grades will be out by Sept 1st week, (also the last day I could work Part time). Apply for PGWP under implied status and restoration. Hopefully that might trigger the need to review my file and may be within few months (by DEC 2020 or something), I will get my WP approved. IRCC just want to make sure that we suffer enough.

Hi everyone,

My wife applied for her study permit back in June (26th) and we live in Canada but she has not heard from them yet. It is for a new study permit but we thought the processing time would be faster since we are alreday in Canada.

Is CIC processing the applications? Have you heard that anyone received their study permits? Is there a backlog?

Please advise,
