Open Work permit while PR is in progress and working on closed work permit

Hi

I am on a closed work permit and currently my PR is in progress. Currently status of the PR is that only security check is remaining and rest everything is passed.

I wanted to if can apply for an open work permit at this stage and point in time? I believe due to covid PR is going to take long time now and it is really hard to work in a closed work permit. Need guidance please. Thanks.

You may qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit. It's a specific Open Work Permit for people that's in Canada with a PR application in progress and holds a valid work permit (closed or open), please check the requirements according with your type of PR application in this link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html

I have a valid job offer with my current employer. Applying the open work permit will reduce my job offer points?

You're welcome. I'm not sure, I believe that one thing is not connected with the other (so it wouldn't reduce your points). However, I'm a non-express entry provincial nominee applicant and I'm not up with all the details for the other types of PR application.
