You don't need the AOR to apply for the tourist visa. I applied for TRV in june 26th but it's a total silence since there. The only actualization is the processing time at the web page: from 24 days to my country 3 weeks ago to 113 days this week!!
I got a refusal last year, this is the 2nd time I try for a TRV. If you want to apply you should do it now because the results of it will be given in 4 months. There's no any kind of change between applicating now or later in the result. They refuse the majority of the TRV applications but you should try

Has anyone heard about when IRCC will be resuming interviews for spousal applications that are overseas. We were waiting for our interview and then received a later in Feb 2020 (before COVID) that said it could be 6-12 months and that the interview would be in Islamabad or Abu Dhabi. We were offered an early interview in the UK and my husbands visa was denied. My lawyer told me that they might not be doing interviews until 2021 and that they do not want to do interviews via Skype or video. When she calls IRCC their response is they do not know when interviews will resume. Does anyone have any info? We put our application in in 2018 and the thought of waiting until next year for an interview is causing me and my husband so much emotional hardship.

That is quite disheartening , The Canadian consulates and High commisions are all closed or operating urgent tasks , I wouldn’t say that 2021 is when you’d expect your interview given your application date .
You should expect one as soon as they’re back at full staff ! Which isn’t so long from now .

With an exception to US citizens who are exempt to the above restrictions , why can’t the rest of us just quietly wait ?

I think it’s not fair that some of us think our applications should be prioritized whilst There are Canadians at risk of dying of COVID . Please lets be patient , the Canadian PR is a privilege not a right, Sliding into the DM’s of the minister or whatever , isn’t going to change anything . Appreciate you got your file in and be happy there’s good hope you’ll live with your spouse in Canada

Curious to know what was the reason given for your earlier TRV refusal ?
They wrote they suspected I was not going to leave Canada given the purpose of visit and the financial support, I was not married yet when I asked it. I understand if they wanted to see a bigger account for the financial support. But my purpose of visit was very strong with a good backup, I didn't understand why they didn't like it.
I tried again in june motivated to all this wait and now they are also delayed with the TRV.

If you don't understand why someone would want to be with their spouse given the uncertainty of the present situation, zero progress on our applications in the last 4 months, and the incredibly long wait - perhaps it is time for you to reassess your own relationship with your spouse.

It is only normal to have the urge to be with your life partner and to try out all the possible legal and rightful means to be with them. I fail to understand how applying for a TRV to visit your spouse is beating the system? Isn't your relationship important for your emotional and mental well-being? How is that not a priority? We are not applying for a TRV to take a selfie at the Niagra Falls!

There is an emotional and mental burden that many of us are facing during the pandemic, you cannot ignore, disregard, or trivialize this. Not everyone is the same, I don't know your situation, you may be content with being away from your life partner but some of us are not.

Sorry, but this is wrong: by the government's own instructions and explanations, travel of longer than fifteen days is deemed 'non-discretionary.' The government's instructions clearly (crystal clear) exempt immediate family members from these restrictions.

To quote directly from the GoC website: "A foreign national who is an immediate family member of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident is exempt from the travel restrictions and permitted to travel to Canada if they have the required documentation for travel. If the immediate family member of the Canadian Citizen or permanent resident’s stay in Canada will be 15 days or longer, they are to be considered to be travelling for a non-discretionary or non-optional purpose."

That doesn't mean it's wise to travel, but the government also has instructions and procedures (fifteen days self-isolation, various tracking and reporting) to deal with the public health risk.

It's a recognition that visiting family members is not just tourism or recreation.

The issue most seem to be dealing with here is that getting a TRV (for those not exempt) is difficult and lengthy at present (and in many cases was difficult before covid, but - according to some - less of an issue because family PR was being processed more quickly.

Agree or disagree about whether the government should come up with some special or faster way to get TRVs for family-class applicants whose applications are delayed more than usual due to covid, you can't rely on the 'discretionary' argument, as the government itself has deemed family visits non-discretionary.

Don’t hear me wrong I like everyone else would like to be with my spouse ASAP , TRV’s under normal circumstances are already difficult to obtain never mind with most embassies and IRCC on lockdown.
Don’t also forget that your spouse in Canada can also visit you almost anywhere in the world without going through the hoops of applying for Visas and IRCC knows that , hence i see no real urge of a TRV . If its all about seeing or being your spouse , your spouse in Canada visiting you instead is much easier and takes less time if that’s your concern .

Applying for a TRV is your right and you should if you sincerely feel that it’ll change your situation , lest i sound like i am against spousal reunification . And i wish you or anyone else trying to have one to be with their spouse as soon as time allows . Just know that on the other side of the world a govt is trying to protect the same people who’ll work on our Applications - from dying of Covid .

You totally make sense dear , IRCC said they have their full focus on returning Canadians and other Urgent matters wether or not TRV is an urgent matter is arbitrary i guess .

I'm not saying it's urgent or where it fits in IRCC priorities. I'm saying the government's own publications deem such visits non discretionary.

I see so many issues with your understanding of the scenario at hand. While I do not wish to divulge details of my situation I will state that:

a) It is not always 'easier' for a spouse in Canada to visit their partner instead. For example, one spouse may have more rigorous job commitments and not be able to take adequate time off (please note that not everyone can work remotely), the spouse in Canada may have to take care of an ailing parent or their children and may not be able to leave them behind or the spouse in Canada may even have some underlying health conditions or comorbidities that might place them at a higher risk of traveling during the pandemic. These are just some examples off the top of my head, again we do not know anyone's personal situation well enough to know what is easier and doable for them and what is not.

b) There are some countries that have already kick-started their family reunification processes and are specifically issuing visas for this purpose because again, family reunification is IMPORTANT. From signing petitions and spreading our story in the media to sliding in a Minister's DMs - there is nothing wrong with taking an initiative or making an effort to streamline things.

Yes, a TRV has higher chances of getting rejected when a family sponsorship application is underway but I personally know of cases where it has been granted (even during COVID-19, yes that happened!) so I would personally not discourage anyone from taking a shot and filling a TRV application wisely based on the experiences of those who have got one. If I even have a 1% chance of being with my spouse sooner rather than much much later, you best believe I will take that shot, as long as it complies with the law.
