I want to know the difference between naturalized canadian citizen VS Canadian citizen by descent. I was born outside of Canada and so was my parents. I was 10 years old when I became a Canadian citizen as my parents became one. I want to know if I'm naturalized canadian citizen or Canadian citizen by descent. The sponsorship form is asking for my status. And if I say naturalized canadian citizen then it is asking for the date. However, my citizenship card only mentions the month and the year but no day. So what should I write on the form

Naturalized means that the person went through the administrative process of becoming a citizen, that is first becoming a PR then taking the oath. 'By Descent' means that the person obtained citizenship at birth through his/her parent. So since you obtained citizenship at the same time as your parents, you are also a naturalized citizen. Any children you have born outside of Canada would be citizens by descent, provided you had not renounced your citizenship before their birth.

Whatever is listed on your card.

My card only shows the month and year. So March 2004 but no day. But the form is asking for day or else it is giving me an error. So should I just type March 1st 2004?

You are naturalized. Your parents weren’t Canadian citizens when you born abroad.

It seems that the month/year on your card is only the issue date of the card, and not the actual naturalization date. The commemorative certificate that you got with your card should have your naturalization date. If you don't have the certificate, I think you should try to contact IRCC and ask them what to put down, or to apply for a search of your citizenship records (which has a fee and might take a few months).
