Slight Spelling Mistake in Marriage Certificate

Hi All,
There is slight error in name in my marriage certificate like my name is written as MASYURI but actually my name is Mayuri , There are other minor error like MR is written before my mother in law's name and little minor errors. Because of COVID i cannot fly back to India and amend those changes, Is it possible that something can be done in this case? How can I proceed with spouse sponsership PR? , I am palnning for Inland as my husband already holds visitor visa

Apply with the marriage certificate you have and include a short note explaining there is a typo on your marriage certificate, and you cannot get an amended / corrected one now. I believe if all other info is correct and it's an obvious typo and you have other supporting docs, they will either accept as is or ask you later to provide a corrected one (allowing for not being able to do so now).

Get a sworn affidavit done saying it is an error of the issuing agency along with what Amoured said is my suggestion. We had a similar situation, in the GCMS notes we ordered it mentioned that they believed the info we provided to support the discrepancy was correct.

My opinion only, I do not believe a sworn affidavit is necessary. An affidavit is literally just a written statement, usually sworn/confirmed (i.e. stamped and signed) by a lawyer or similar - that is, the main difference is it's sworn before an official of some kind.

If the letter is from you (the applicant) to IRCC, what's the point? The lawyer confirms that you wrote the letter? Unless the IRCC specifically requires, save your time and money. (I believe fair to say that affidavits are generally meant to confirm that a third party stated something because they won't be present in front of a court or judge to state themselves in person).

Don't complicate things: write a simple letter saying there is a typo in the marriage certificate, and that you intend to replace as soon as possible. If you provide other supporting docs as above, should be enough. If they think something more offiical is needed or a sworn affidavit, they can ask.

I checked some background information on this. Note that the sense of an affidavit is just that it is a written statement which you have sworn, the legal meaning of which is you are responsible for it (e.g. in a court context it would be perjury to swear a false affidavit).

The application you submit (form imm0008) already has this language where you sign (short paraphrase by me): "This declaration covers the information on this form and all attached and accompanying documents." and: "I understand that any false statements or concealment of material facts ... [have consequences and may result in exclusion from Canada]."

By writing a letter of explanation and attaching it to your application, you are already taking responsibility for your written statement; there is no need to 'swear it' again in front of a lawyer or notary, it won't make it any more truthful or verifiable. If they wish to verify the content of your letter ( that it was a misspelling), they might ask for something from the issuing authority or a corrected certificate, but a more official letter from you won't change that.

Hello, I am in similar situation but its my middle name where there is a spelling mistake. Actually, they used spelling of middle name from one of my indian identity card.

Any updates, how did you sort this out?

I got it corrected before visa application and received SOWP back in august.
I raise it to local municipal body and git it corrected.

I would suggest to get it corrected as mine was corrected in two weeks time after i raised it to assistant commissioner of the ward by online query.
