hey all, I have been out of status in Canada for seven years. My Common Law partner ( who I met 1.5 years ago) will sponsor me. I am afraid that once we submit documents CBSA will know my address and come to my house or deport me. What are the chances for that? And how does this work? Thanks for any help, I am so worried.

CBSA won't come and deport you because of the PR application.

However you will want to put together a very strong PR application. You can expect that IRCC will review your relationship very closely given how long you've been in Canada without status. You should expect the possibility that processing of your application will take longer due to your immigration history in Canada.

Thank you for your response! I will have to list all my illegal work I assume? Will my former employers be contacted too? Will they get fines because they hired me illegally?

Yes, you should list your illegal employment. You need to be 100% truthful in the application.

No, they won't contact or fine your employers.

Normally interviews aren't required. However in your case an interview is a possibility to confirm your relationship is genuine given how long you've been in Canada without status.

There is a slight risk of being deported. Your application will put you on the radar as someone out of status. Usually you are allowed to remain given your PR application.

Do I have a higher chance of being deported once I apply because I didn’t leave when they asked me to? Will they have access to my old application- the extension of stay?

There is always the possibility of removal, especially when you've been in Canada illegally for so long and worked illegally.

and how does the removal work? They send you a letter or come to your house?
