It's amazing how traffic to this site, and the posts have vastly fallen in number.. From 8th April to date, a full month, there are just 3 new posts !!

Hi all,

I am an August 2019 applicant . I got my AOR on Nov 20-2019 and status was changed to processing on Dec 05, 2019 . I have plans to go back to home country as my parents aren't well. Will there be an impact in application if i plan to go back? I can come during citizenship exam and oath ceremony but i am planning to go back and stay with them for sometime. I have my PR validity till June 2021. Please advise if i can go once the situation is stable and flights are resumed.

I actually left Canada after I had sent my application and returned to do the test and oath. Because I'm still working abroad, after oath I had to get Canadian passport to be able to return to Canada, since during oath you have to give up PR including card. I just made sure I'm able to fly back for the test and oath. I did not get invitation to oath though email but regular mail, so if you plan not be in the country, make sure you are able to receive regular mail as well.

Note that situation for you might be different depending on how you plan to get to Canada during current restrictions.

Yes a flew back twice. There was less than month between the flights and not much lead time either. Cpouple of weeks lead time if I remember correct.

I didn't explain being abroad and it's not forbidden to leave Canada during application process as long as you have valid PR to the end of the process:

So, leaving Canada is not an issue, but it's still good to make sure to be able to participate both test and oath as well as have access to Canadian mail in case IRCC sends regular mail instead of email.

Did you update your address with IRCC? Did they ask you any question about your address or if you move abroad

I did not update address, since I own the house and rest of my family lives in the house IRCC had the address for in their books.

From the link above: "We usually only mail letters, notices and other documents to addresses in Canada."

Based on my experience and instructions from IRCC, I don't see any issue leaving Canada after application is sent as log as one has Canadian address and is ready to return to Canada in short notice.

They did not ask me anything about my location when in interview. Would they have asked I would of course have told them the truth.

I also had plenty of buffer on my Canadian residence and I had paid taxes to Canada for last 8 years.

To be honest, I don't remember. If yes, then nothing very specific. Once again, as long as you are truthful there is no issues.

You're quite hazardous with the word amazing lol. Juts kidding. Checking every day, anxiously waiting for CIC to resume. The only comfort I have is that my test and interview is done already, and immigration officer said "now just wait for the oath invite". Wishing everyone good luck and patience

I understand that they cant schedule tests and oath ceremonies, but it seems that they have stopped looking at applications all together. They can still issue AOR and put applications to process cant they ?

I think IRCC employees are not working now.

I guess it depends on the province? Quebec (therefore presumably their CIC offices) is rolling back on the lockdown this week.

Yes they should work from hom but your files are in paper, are they not?

I am wondering, don't they converted paper files into digital before start processing? that's what i heard
