Extending visitor visa while PR is in progress

My husband and I are PR and our 15 mo son is a US citizen. He is currently living with us in Canada as a visitor. We entered Canada in Dec 2019 and we have already applied to sponsor him for PR and the sponsorship is approved while the PR application is in progress.

1. Now, I guess I need to apply for a visitor record to extend his stay beyond June, even though his PR is in progress, right?

2. When I am applying to extend his status, is it wise to choose the option to "stay beyond 180 days", that way if PR is delayed, I don't have to reapply to extend his stay?

Too early. Wait until a few weeks before his status expires.

1. Yes, you will need to extend his status.

2. You can ask for longer. Make sure to include proof of the sponsorship app.

Agreed. No harm to indicate to stay beyond 180 days, specially with the current situation and certainty that the PR app processing will take much longer than usual.

Yes. Would indicate that sponsorship is already started. Would ask for a year and explain that you want to ensure that you are given enough time for sponsorship to be completed given there may be delays due to covid. Including any form of proof that you are prepared for the stay and taxpayers resources won’t be used can only help your application.

As said above, yes. Also be sure to include proof of finances to support the extended stay.

Thank you. Another silly question. Do I need to create a new CIC account for my child under his name to apply to extend his visa or I can just apply using my existing CIC account?
