COPR and coronavirus

My parents have COPR that expires by July 2020, I wonder if it's a good idea to submit a request to extend their COPR. I mean even if there are flights available, (there are no flights currently, unavailable) I don't really feel comfortable with them travelling during this pandemic which is very risky. They probably won't have OHIP for the first 3 months and I am just scared if they would get exposed while flying through let's say London UK or something. Why can't the IRCC just issue 1 year extension to everyone instead of going through this painful process of extending case by case. We've already proven that we are worthy of immigrating to Canada, and after a rigorous processing they concluded the same. What could change within a few months. I wish they just extend it given the Covid 19 situation and how risky it is to travel and just auto extend it. I find it ridiculous that if they don't do that, more people will be afraid and take risks travelling fearing their expiry, exposing themselves and others while travelling, mainly because they waited so long to get approved and now they don't wanna lose it.

Can something be done about this??

A noble intention but does not need a SIN to export goods to Canada that would be a whole different process for a Canada non resident maybe export/import and customs licences, but you would need professional advice on that.
I wondered the same. But he said non resident can export, but usually a Canadian will be the importer. I've been in Canada for so long but I know nothing about importing anything. So he said it would be better to do this properly, he could export and import N95 masks too and sell them at the market price and other essentials if need be. I don't know I thought I'd ask here. It's not that big a deal, at this point I am worried if they would be forced to travel before their COPR expiry on July 2020, I don't want them to take such risks, I've read about cases where people who were tested negative, had a transit in London UK, or some other exposed country like Qatar, only for an hour or so, and when they reached destination, they were tested positive within 10 days. It is so virulent. I know Canada sort of downplays this a bit, and there are no real checks at Pearson I just think it is such an unfortunate thing people are forced to travel because of COPR expiry date. I wonder if we all could submit a petition or something to request them to auto extend until the crisis is over. It is not like many people who move to Canada now are going to find employment right away (my father being a business owner is different) so they should really consider that. Most people who are new comers will be on CERB cuz they can't find employment, even if they don't qualify. Sorry about the rant.

When you raised the web form earlier that time your flight was not cancelled. You might just have requested on the grounds of risks involved if you travel. Now you are actually unable to travel.I feel it's always better to raise 1 extra web form in such cases like you rather than relying in ircc's understanding. As of now ,how many cases would they extend based on UNDERSTANDING of severity and how many they will extend for sure due to genuine inability to travel is yet not clear.
So if they take decision in the basis if your previous web form it might go against you as you were not under any travel restrictions that time. Now you have valid proof so I think you should inform them that you tried to land but flight us cancelled.Rest is up to you.All the best.
The thing is that at that time, when I raised my first two forms, my tickets had been cancelled by airlines and I was under travel restrictions of my country (exemptions were put in place only a week ago) and Canada (exemptions were announced only recently as well). So even under this circumstances which were beyond my control, IRCC did not answer me anything specific (except for "write here when everything is normalized"). I just want to wait a couple of days to see what my country says.

I don't understand how your flight can be cancelled and you don't receive a refund, that's absurd.

Unless you're buying tickets which are non-refundable which would not make any sense in this uncertain environment.

Unfortunately airlines and travel companies are in a pretty impossible position. Give out cash refunds to everyone at the same time and they go bust so no airline left. Issue vouchers for future travel, they keep the cash and have a chance to not go bust, although they still could if travel takes too long to pick up.

Airlines rely on a healthy cash flow and balance so are never keen on refunding anything versus vouchers for future travel.

As for Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, they will refund within 3 months (they answered me), as for LOT, they can only offer me a voucher. it is ok for me as long as I recieve the refund from Lufthansa and Turkish.

You are absolutely right! but let us not take a chance and writing a webform, asking for extension will not take much of your efforts. Need to do this just to double protect our interest.

Friends, I had planned for landing by 31st March, cancelled the air tickets due to the pandemic. My COPR is valid until mid of Nov '2020. Should I raise a webform for a safety just in case if the situation prolongs ? Advise please.

Your COPR expires 5-6 months down the line..and things should settle down by that time...so you shouldn't submit webform

What is the process of extending the COPR? I'm the daughter, Canadian citizen. My parents got approved and got the COPR, dad principal applicant, mom being the dependent. So I submit the webform, and then what happens? They will simply extend the COPR in their system or they would ask my parent to resubmit the passports and resend an email for the COPR, and return the passport with new stamps? Has anyone successfully done this, extended to a longer period, if yes how long is the extension basically?

Whatever the formalities, it could be done later. The point of raising webform is just to make IRCC clear that you got affected becuase of the pandemic and it justifeis your request of extending COPR validity.

But you and I are not affected yet. My parents copr expires July and yours December 2020. So we don't know if we are affected yet, it is a bit risky to submit a form and claim you are affected and they cancel your current COPR, and then they take another year or so to sort this out. A better solution would be to add another 6 months or so in the expiry date in all COPR given the situation and let people land when they are safe to do so within their new expiry date.
