I wish they'd confirm the rules for immediate family members of citizens, as previously mentioned I'm a comm-law partner of a citizen and have a COPR but still unclear whether I can travel on the 2nd of April. My flight is booked and still running at the moment.

Hi guys,
I have been reading this forum and like most of you, my COPR will be expiring very soon, on April 6 to be exact.
I was supposed to travel yesterday but rebooked the flight due to strict instructions from CBSA who I called on March 17 and they advised me not to arrive as I will not be allowed to enter.
I sent a webform immediately to my local IRCC office in Abu Dhabi and I received a response a few minutes back advising me that they do not know how long the travel ban will be in place and that if it is lifted before April 6, I should inform them that I will be able to travel.
However, they have assured that if I am unable to travel before the expiry of my visa due to the travel ban IRCC will be as flexible as possible which is a confirmation that they will extend it for a certain period of time.
I am certainly relieved to a large degree and would like you all to know that they will definitely make it as easy as possible for all of us who may not be able to travel due to the restrictions.
Good to hear that. Could you please let us know what was the response time they mentioned after you submitted your webform? I am wondering how come they replied so quickly because usually they ask for 28 days time to respond.
Thanks.

Welp, now i'm screwed because my country has implemented a travel ban until 30 April, and my COPR is expiring on the same day.

So even if Canada lifts its travel ban before then i won't be able to travel.

Good stuff.

If you look at the special measures relating to people who have already been approved as PRs (basically us), it says if we can't travel to Canada, that they will extend their documents (COPR and PR visa), we just have to inform them by webform.
It says: We’ll then give you more detailed instructions regarding restarting the processing of your permanent residence application.

COPR expires on 4th April. I am from USA. Filed my extensions request on 9th March. I mentioned that our state has declared emergency, banned large gatherings and told them about our toddler son who will be traveling. But they rejected. The person said 'Upon review of your request to extend the validity of your visa, I am not satisfied that there are factors beyond your control that prevent you from landing in Canada prior to the expiry of your visa. The validity of your COPR and/or visa will not be extended'.
Can you please tell me after a COPR has been issued how long do you have until entering the country??Just so im prepared, im waiting any time soon for DM. TIA

If you read the criteria used for re-opened applications, it has to do with validity of security and criminality checks, and medical exams. It doesn't have anything to do with eligibility.

So basically, as long as your checks are valid and your medical has not expired, you will be provided an extension. If your medical has expired, then you will probably have to do a remedical before they re-issue you COPR and PR visa.

Now, what the timeline for all of this is, that's still a mystery.

They always give you the CoPr as per your medical examination, alwys the maximum expiry date depending on your medical examination.

@Ethan07 My CoPR was issued on March 15, 2020 and expires on May 15, 2020. Shall I raise webform to report inability to land due to border restrictions? Or, I wait for few days and see how events turn out. I am scared that response for a web form submission might take 28 days.

Not necessarily, my medical was approved in July, i only got COPR until 30 April.

So technically, if had to extend my COPR my medical would still be valid.
