Hello,
I was wondering If I would need a Police Certificate for my Citizenship Application.

I Landed on Aug 15, 2015 from the US, I went back to the US after a Week.
I Fully moved and settled in Canada on December 9th, 2016 and been living/working here since then.
I am applying for my Citizenship in March and was wondering if I would need a Police Certificate from the US?

I am an Indian Citizen and was living/working in the US on a H1B Visa (Continuously since 2011 before moving to Canada in December 2016). I had to Submit Police Certificate from the US when I applied for my PR.

Thank you :)

Below is from Citizenship Application website

Police certificate(s)

You need to provide a police certificate from each country, other than Canada, if you were there

  • in the past 4 years
  • for 183 days or more in a row
  • since the age of 18
Indicate in the chart the name of each country and provide a police certificate.

You don’t need to provide a police certificate if

  • you were in your country of origin immediately prior to becoming a permanent resident and landing in Canada, and
  • this time falls within the past 4 years
If you can’t get a police certificate, tell us why in the explanation box.

To be valid, the police certificate must be either issued

  • after the last time you were in that country, or
  • no more than 6 months before the date you sign your citizenship application
We may request a police certificate at any point during processing, even if you submitted a valid certificate with your application.

Looks like you need one as you were not in the country of origin within the 4 years prior to submission
Country of origin will be US? because I applied for my PR from there and was living there before moving to Canada and was a Tax Resident? Otherwise they would have said country of Citizenship? This is what confusing me

For me too, same month i moved from US but I decided to submit fbi report as it just takes 2 weeks to get the report. As we dont know which officer will interpret the rule differently, if its possible you can keep to avoid any delay just for fbi report.

Yes, I agree with you and I am getting the FBI report. Did you choose to get the online version of the FBI report? Seems that will be faster.

Hi everyone,

I moved to Canada on May 2016 from Brazil. Became a PR on October 2017. I am applying for my Citizenship on March 1 2020. Regarding the police certificates, the question is "in the past 4 years were you in a country other than Canada for 183 days or more in a row?" In this case, 4 years ago would be March 2016, I was still living in Brazil before moving here, which means that in the past 4 years I was in Brazil for 2 months, 60 days (From March to May 2016). This means it's not required for me to provide the police certificate in this case, correct?

would someone be able to answer this question or let me know where I can confirm this?

Thank you!

Use online/email as well as mailing because you would get a code to download the soft copy in 2 days and in 2-3 weeks you would receive the hard copy.
As its free, if you receive hard copy in mail before you send the application then you can include that itself.
