Spousal Sponsorship Interview, is the sponsor required to attend?

My sponsorship application is being processed, I submitted it in August of 2019. I've passed my medical, and they are working on my background check. My husband is in the Canadian Military, and he has a lot of courses coming up that will keep him from being available most of this year. Does he need to be there for the interview if they call for one? Thanks in advance

Depends on the interview and your application - if you're in Canada and applied inland, he needs to attend a final (landing) interview with you. If it's a relationship interview, the interview invitation will explain if he's required to attend.

If you are not in Canada, and get called for an interview, the sponsor is generally not required to leave Canada to attend an interview with you.

Yea we applied inland. I'll have to call them and see if I can schedule it myself. I'm wanting to to home to the states for the six months that he's away on course, but that may not happen if they are waiting on an interview to approve my application.

If you are inland, the only interview you typically have to attend is a final, landing interview. You won't be able to schedule it until your application is complete, and even then, it's up to the local office to do the scheduling.

You can't schedule it yourself because your sponsor is required to attend to confirm they still wish to sponsor you. You can request the landing interview be scheduled when your husband is available, but you won't be able to do that until your application is complete and you have an initial invitation.

Calling them right now would be rather pointless :( I would also be concerned about calling them right now and saying that your husband is gone for six months - while there is some leeway in the procedures around Canadian service members, there is a requirement that you live with your sponsor during a sponsorship application. Him being away for six months may be a challenge.

If I were to give you advice, it would be to wait until you have an interview request and then request it be postponed as he's in the military.

As an American you are unlikely to have an interview unless there is some red flag like barely knowing each other, huge age difference, etc.

I would be more concern on moving back to the states and not living with your spouse any more while applying for inland.
Interview for American applicant is rare except the final landing interview which both sponsor and applicant are required to attend.

Okay, we will just wait then and request to postpone, or maybe he will be able.to leave the course for a day or two to do the interview. Thank you for the info!
