Absolutely not!

Unless your country no longer exists and/or can’t renew your passport.

I am from Bangladesh but my father is very ill and have to go to India for multiple surgery next month. India will not let me in with my current passport and if I apply for a new one then I will have to wait at least 6 weeks - 8 weeks or more then another delay to receive Indian visa.

That is still faster than getting your Canadian citizenship and a Canadian passport (that too a routine application).

Having said that, check out this link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...p/become-canadian-citizen/apply/urgently.html and write a 1. cover letter to IRCC stating your family's medical emergency case (brief explanation) and 2. that you have made your best efforts to renew your passport - attach proof of docs of that.. and maybe..just maybe they'll pay heed. Who knows!

Good luck! :)

I am from Ottawa. my status changed to "In process" on Dec 10 and I haven't heard back since then.

My current passport is expiring on July 30th, 2020. Considering the fact that my current passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months, I will be unable to travel outside Canada after Jan 30th and I was planning to go few places.

Would this be considered a valid reason for urgent processing?

Thanks everyone
If your processing center is Scarborough I would guess a Test Invite for around end of Feb (again this is just a guess). All the best!

anyone from Vancouver got a test invite?? my status changed to in process on Dec 10 & nothing since then.

It is good news if you got nothing after 1 month of in process.. if something happens, like a fingerprint req or other docs requested, then it in fact delays your processing.

I see it's just a guess but Scarborough center is also known for long delays. There is a separate thread in citizenship forum that it titled More than 16 months delay in Scarboro center..

Thanks for your reply, so usually if they ask for FP or other documents, will it happen shortly after the status change to IP??

It depends on individuals. Also, this trend is seen mainly for applicants from July '19 onward. Maybe there is a separate department processing applicants from July 2019 onward? New internal deadlines/policies? Just making assumptions. We don't know. I'm just saying based on a few examples from the tracking sheet. That's why I wrote just a guess.
