Hello Guys,

I am planning to apply for Citizenship.

Landing date in Canada :- June 29th 2013.
By June 29th 2018 I have established eligibility to apply for citizenship.

However since I am applying for citizenship now I plan to sign my application as Jan 1st 2020.

What dates should i consider for calculating eligibility?

Should i consider June 29th 2013 to June 29th 2018 or should i consider

Jan 1st 2015 to Jan 1st 2020 ?

I was also able to see the below info in the CIC website :-

The date a person signs the application form is the date of filing. Where the date on an application is more than three months old (90 calendar days) when received (staledated) or where the date is a date in the future (postdated), the application will be treated as if it is unsigned

Any thoughts suggestions ???

You consider the five years previous to the date you signed the application.

Be aware that you can't just "pick" a date to sign; you should actually put the date on which you signed the document.

Thanks for the quick response. My friend who applied recently suggested I should use / indicate all my time here in Canada but i agree that the 5 years indicated must be from the date of application signed and the date cannot be backdated more than 3 months.

Do your physical presence calculation and enter the required dates... the calculator will state your eligibility period.

It appears you may be overlooking a critical observation already offered:

Be aware that you can't just "pick" a date to sign; you should actually put the date on which you signed the document.
What is stale dated is NOT about back dating. It is one thing to sign and date an application and then fail to send it in for so long that IRCC will return it for being stale dated.

IT is a totally different thing to enter information in the application which is NOT accurate, such as the date you are in fact signing the application. That is misrepresentation.

Sure, getting caught for misrepresenting the date the application is signed is not likely. What tends to be more likely is a processing agent or officer getting the impression the applicant did not sign the application the day it is dated and that influencing how the agent or officer perceives the applicant's credibility more generally. How much that hurts will vary and depends on the rest of the application.

Obviously, a day or three off is no big deal. But deliberately representing the application was signed on a date significantly different than the date it actually is signed, that is a misrepresentation of fact for which, if caught, the penalties can be rather severe.

Applicants are almost always better off focusing on providing complete and ACCURATE information in EVERY entry made in the application. Those who deviate from this tend to follow a perilous path.

I was suggested that I could backdate the date back to 2013 but i understand now that it shouldn't be done and also while using the physical calculator these discrepancies can be avoided. I was trying to use the form CIT0407E to calculate physical presence. My advice to everyone out there is not to use this form and to use the prescribed physical calculator which is accurate.

For now i will be signing the application as Jan 1st 2020 and eligibility will be Jan 1st 2015 - Jan 1st 2020.
