Destitute Student

Those students likely misrepresented themselves, not to mention worked illegally. While IRCC may have missed that on first review, it will eventually be discovered.

I'm puzzled. What's your primary concern - going to work because you're destitute, or staying in Canada?

Be aware the work permit for a destitute student is a last ditch, emergency permit. If you qualify for it, your future IRCC applications may be reviewed more stringently.
I see, although I haven't worked illegally, I hope things will go my way too.

I want to stay here in Canada, but the tuitions are crippling me at the moment, which studies and then PGWP was my initial plan to PR. It's like playing chess, managing everything and crossing fingers hoping, in the end, you're going to get what you were dreaming for.

I have used most of the money I had to pay my tuition so far, but honestly, I'm working part-time and that's the only thing I can rely on at the moment.
Does anyone have any information regarding studying while working full-time?
Can I be a part-time student for a semester while working full-time? I know one of the requirements for the post-graduation work permit is continuous full-time studies, but could this be an exception?!

I've called the IRCC hotline and they've told me it all depends on whether you get the work permit or not and even they didn't have information about how should I proceed with studying and working full-time.
It's very doable for me since I can skip classes (or take evening classes) and attend exams, but still, that's a great deal of pressure.
None of the Canadian permits related to students would be approved if the plan is to skip classes to work. Attending school and classes will always be prioritized.

Thanks guys for being there

My university acknowledged the issue we're having and they've extended the deadline to pay the tuition. Also my work permit has been sent to the case processing center. Hopefully it will be approved.

I'll post an update again

Even if you worked full-time could you pay your tuition and living expenses? I am unsure if you paid this semester but you are looking at needing 1.5-2 years of tuition that you will have to pay.

Yes university has provided a financial plan that we'll have to pay our tuition in installments for a couple of months.
Fortunately, my job right now is not a minimum salary and it's a very good and technical one and with the work permit for a semester, I will be able to pay off my debts and my living expenses.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has gotten their work permit through humanitarian reasons by being destitute.
I've already applied by mail and I'm still waiting for their decision, but it's taken more than 5 months now.

Can someone who got their work permit in terms of being destitute describe the process?
Is the work permit only for the next semester of your studies? Will you be able to study full-time/part-time? Is there a chance that you can get it renewed again?

Thanks

Hey Esther,

Here's an update:

My application was refused since I hadn't included banking proofs or anything on a paper about my situation in my application other than a letter of explanation as I thought I'll be interviewed and I'll have to prove everything during the actual interview. But no, they refused it and asked me to re-apply if I have proof (duuh!!).

So another application and another 2-4 months of waiting time.

Please care to explain your situation as well.

Well we are currently in a recession and the banking system has collapsed and this has Been ongoing for 2 years now. There are restrictions to send money out of the country. And my parents got laid off at work due to that it’s been pretty difficult with paying most of my fees and rent by myself. I’ve seen the option of the open work permit and wanted to know my chances of getting it.

Yea they said you can re-apply, but IRCC said you shouldn't but it's not going to stop me from trying!

One thing I noticed though was that the federal accepted (just an assumption) my application and sent it to the case processing centre in my city for further investigation but I could be wrong.

There's nothing else we can do but to wait for summer so we can work full-time or apply and hope we'll get it before then.
And by the way, where are you from?

I suggest try it, and send everything you have, bank statements for yourself, for your parents if you can. Add your pay slips and explain your costs in details. Get a letter from your university that says how much debt you have.
Since this application is on paper, there's literally no room for mistakes, even after you successfully manage to link it to your account.
