Signature on my friend's letter of invitation

Hello,
I'll be applying for a Canadian Visitor Visa on paper (because of my current status in the U.S.) to visit my friend in Ontario. He wrote the invitation letter however, we are not sure how to sign it. Does he have to print, sign with a pen, scan, and send it to me via email? Or can he sign electronically on Adobe and send me via email?

Either should be fine. The legal value of both is same since cic has no way of knowing if a said signature indeed belongs to your friend.

Having said that, wet signature is conventionally preferred
Do it if you can manage it easily.
