My mother was an unwed Canadian when I was born in the States. She later wed an American, and he adopted me.
I grew up in a border town. That's basically it.

And you've never lived in Canada before and want to live in Canada now?

I am prepping to send my daughter's in, she was also born in the states.

I lived there as a baby I think. I mean, I also lived in a border town, did all my hospital, dentist stuff in Canada, etc as a kid.

Agh.
  1. We received your application for a citizenship certificate (proof of Canadian citizenship) on April 8, 2019.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on May 24, 2019.
  3. We started processing your application on July 16, 2019.
NEW TODAY-

"...your file has been referred to the Program Support Unit for a final review and decision. While every effort will be made to finalize your application as soon as possible, this means that it will not be processed within the current application processing times posted..."

I'm in limbo... it's official. Anyone know how long I can expect? Is it really years like some have suggested?

Hi
I have 2 question.
I'm canadian citizen and in process of legal name change(alberta), just wondering is there any option for submit proof of certificate online? I saw checklist which mentioned paper file or online submission.
If yes can you please share link or process for online submission.

Secondly is it illegal to travel with old name( old canadian passport but new name on all other id's) until you get new passport ?

Thanks

I went through a name change myself but in Ontario but at the beginning of the year. Filled the form electronically then printed it and mailed it to IRCC.
Passport Canada will not give you a new passport with the new name until you have a new certificate with the new name, they do not recognize a provincial legal change of name. In the meantime, I travelled so many times with a passport that had my old name on it with no problems at all.

Sounds good! thanks for quick response.
I think after new citizenship certificate, I'll apply for new passport and surrender old passport.

Np. They don't take away the old one. They cancel it and give it back to you.
Read the instructions on the application carefully so the process can go smoothly.
Check my timeline but I believe mine took less than 4 months from start to finish.

Perfect,I just done finger prints(2-3 weeks) for name change, after I'll submit application for legal name change.(3-4 Months)
Then I'll change my all id's( 2-3 weeks) and send proof of citizenship.(4-5 months)
I think almost 6-8 months process.

I am not sure what is happening in my case
- Application received - 21 May
- AOR - 30 July

After that no update at all
ECAS still says Application received

I heard from some one few cases Status don't change to in process and directly move to decision made.

Note : Mine is name change case
Hi... I have a similar case.... just wondering if you ever heard back after the AOR... Thanks!

Mine was "application received" from January 28, 2019 to sometime in september/October 2019. Between march to april 2019, nothing was happening. Triggered me to request for ATIP in end of April 2019. Per ATIP that i received in end of May 2019, March 22, 2019 was when someone actually touched my application and reviewed it. It was noted that it was forwarded to Program Support. But ECAS only says, "Application Received" until end of October which to me is a bit weird. The ECAS timeline/progress was only up to bullet 2 which reads something like "We acknowledge receipt of your proof of citizenship citizenship application on January 28, 2019".

This November, the status changed to "In Process". Bullet 3 is now added which reads something like "We sent you a letter on March 22, 2019. Please consider delays atc. Etc."

1. Wonder why it took them so look to change the status from Application Received to In Process. Does it mean someone is now looking on my application?

2. How come i havent received the letter dated March 22, 2019? Nada. None in email or postal mail. Im outside usa or canada.
