You will need the marriage certificate from your marriage to your second husband in Hong Kong, and the divorce certificate from Canada. Has your ex-husband moved on with his life, or are there complications that have yet to be resolved? Do you have a formal separation agreement, signed by both parties?

CIC is familiar with the local laws and customs of the country that they are responsible for, and it is well known that the Philippines does not recognize divorce. If you search this forum with keywords philippines and divorce, you will find that many couples have gone through this, and it is generally not an issue.

You will still need to provide evidence that your relationship is genuine, just like any other application. Just having a marriage certificate is not enough.

I am a PR in Canada. I am married in Philippines but already divorced in Canada. I already have my Divorce Cerificate.

My girlfriend is in the Philippines with no previous marriage.

I came home in the Philippines and we would like to get married in Hong Kong.

My question is about the requirements in Hong Kong to get married for foreigners.

Do we have to get our documents Apostilled in the Philippines, like birth certificates, cenomar, my divorce certificate from Canada? So that we can get a “freedom to marry” certificate from Philippine Embassy in Hong Kong?

Or we can just go straight to the process of marrying and registering our marriage?

Please someone advise us. We really need help. Thanks in advance.

If you plan to marry in Hong Kong, why involve the Phils embassy? I do not think you need all the documents you have listed.

This site has some info about HK requirements:

https://starthongkongmarriage.com/hk-marriage-requirements-foreigner/

I take it that you and your gf are both Filipino. You were once married in Phils, divorced in Canada. But your Phils marriage will still show up at PSA and they won't give you a cenomar unless that marriage was annulled or your Canadian divorce recognized by Phils court order. I would think the point of marrying in HK is to avoid Phils requirements, including cenomar, no?

After marriage, do you intend to remain in the RP? Do you want your marriage registered with PSA, if so, why?

Hi there Kaibigan!

Your exactly right with everything you said.

It's just that everytime we look up on the requirements to get married in Hong Kong, the Philippine government website always pops up so we read their site and they want people to do this and that. It makes it almost impossible for Filipinos like me who were married in the Philippines but got a divorced in different country.

In regards to marrying my girlfriend, do we just go to Hong Kong and just file a Noticed of Intended Marriage? And obtain a Certificate of Registrar from the Marriage Registry?

Also, I know the topic of this thread is for marrying in Hong Kong but is it the same process in Thailand? We do not also need to involved the Philippines embassy?

Thanks in advance Kaibigan or whoever will answer us.

Hi Kaibigan,

Yes, I am in the Phils right now.

Yes, I am familiar with Siamlegal and we saw that same notes you send here because we are looking at Thailand as option to get married as Hong Kong is currently on a travel restriction right now and there is no guarantee they would not extend it.

Are you almost sure that Hong Kong would not care about cenomar or embassy-issued certification of freedom to marry?

Do you know personally or someone here who shares the same experience as our situation right now?

iIf your still PR when you got divorced in Canada Philippine court will not recognized that divorce because your still a Filipino . You have to file for annullment in the Philippines

Nope, I cannot say for sure about HK. Just what I have read (some mentioned above) suggests to me strongly that marriage in HK will not be a problem, if you can get there.

Also, I do not know anyone else in your exact situation.

The HK site I referenced invites email inquiries. Maybe send them an email setting out any questions/concerns.

Hi Kaibigan,

I did emailed the website that you gave me. And they respond. I think it's not going to be a problem with our documents.

I think we cannot get married in Thailand as they need to get documents from Philippine embassy before we can proceed with the marriage.

Did you got married in Hong Kong when your still a PR in Canada?

True. That is why I suggest that the Phils be left out of it. If Phils is involved, many obstacles. The OP and I have been discussing possibilities via private messages. I won't set all that out here.

Can you do PM me Kaibigan about this? Hong Kong will be open on April 20th..

I waited for my citizenship before I filed my divorce in that way I have options either to get the decree recognized in the Philippines so I ca marry there or get married in HK. We went got married in HK because thats the faster route

But is it still doable to get married in Hong Kong if my status in Canada is permanent resident when I got my divorce? We are currently in discussions with this wedding services in Hong Kong and they said it's okay, we don't have to deal with Philippine embassy in Hong Kong. They will just send forms for us and one of the forms has to be notarized. Does this sound good? Can they do it? Thanks in advance.
