You’ve got a bit of work to do on your end if this is how you plan to proceed.

Start here:

Not sure this is going to be of any use. The parents do not appear to have ever married.

I am Vietnamese living in Vietnam. I have a son (8) from a Canadian father. We are not married but the father agreed to be on the birth certificate and signed documents and did DNA test to prove his paternity.

The father left Vietnam years ago and never gave support money. I don't know where he lives but I know his home city. I would like to receive child support and I want my son a Canadian citizen. I only have his birth certificate proof and the paperswork his father gave: DNA test results, written oath he is father, copy of father passport

How can I get child support for my son? Can he get Canadian citizen and passport?

Can the OP use the copy of the father's passport as proof of the father's citizenship when applying for her son's certificate though? Even though you need to be a citizen to have a passport, the passport itself is just a travel document and can't be used as the document to prove citizenship. The checklist for the application only lists the parent's birth certificate, citizenship certificate, proof of registration abroad and retention certificate as acceptable documents to prove the parent's citizenship. Since the OP does not know where the father currently lives or (presumably) does not know how to contact the father, the OP is going to have a very hard time trying to get a certified copy of the father's birth certificate, or to ask the father to apply for the son's citizenship certificate instead.

In fact, as the copy probably isn't notarized either, it's of less value anyway. It *could* be a copy of any Canadian's lost or stolen passport.

Professional legal services seem to be indicated.

Thank you, this is not me going to Canada. I want my son to go as adult if he want. Money is little and I also want his father to help support him or pay for his education in Canada. But I'm happy he can get citizenship even his father won't help. I want my son to have a good life.
Parents aren’t required to pay for secondary education so there would be no way to force his father to pay. When living in Canada he will be able to apply for loans or grants if they exist and work while attending school
