Spousal Sponsorship Proof of Cohabitation

Newbie here, we submitted our Spousal sponsorship application last March 2019 and also medical exams last June, few days ago we received an email stating that we did not provide enough evidence of cohabitation here in Canada. Since I am a Visitor visa holder the only proof that we submitted is my tourist insurance policy with the same address with my husband because all the utilities, rental contract and bank accounts are under his name. What are the other supporting documents can we submit if I am still holding a Visitor Visa. Thank you in advance.

Do you not have anything in your name with his address on it? Letters sent to you? Mobile phone contract? A driver's licence? You need to show that you actually live with your spouse.

Since I am just holding a visitor visa before we apply, the only thing that we provide is the insurance policy showing that we have the same address and that he is my benificiary. but after submitting the sponsor application I applied foe Visitor extension and it was approved and it was address to me showing that we have the same address.

I think you can have Bank account JOINT with him, A learner's DRIVER license which you could get as well. A vehicle could be joint ownership in both names too.

will they allow me to have learner's driver license even if I am still a visitor? we are planning to add my name in all the utility bills. will that be enough?

Yes, you can get a driver's licence as a visitor. You can also be an added user to your spouse's credit cards, which would prompt the bank to send you mail at the address.

We added his name to everything we could, including rental agreement. You can do that as a visitor, also.

We are just about to apply and I am in a similar situation where husband (Applicant) only recently came to Canada and as a visitor so name/address has been hard to get. Banks won't let you set up a joint account unless you have a SIN which visitors don't (although some members of the forum have shopped around and have found luck with inexperienced tellers who set up joint accounts) Drivers licences and car insurance usually require PR/Citizenship or Work Visa. Utilities usually only want 1 name on account. It's been really tough. Here's what we've managed so far.

- Added name as a secondary user to Credit Card. They won't get a statement with name/address though, the statements still are addressed to you only and only show the second card number so we've had to take photos of both cards and highlighted transactions made by the other card on a statement.
- Mobile phone contract
- Set up a telephone line under his name although we NEVER use it but we paid the price just to get a statement.
- Add name to lease
- Amazon/online shopping/delivery invoices
- Letters/card sent to both of us
- Signed affidavit by neighbour saying we are living together and for how long
- Signed affidavit by friend who regularly comes over for dinner parties/coffee/drops us off/ etc. that says we have been living together and specific dates over the time frame of when they've visited.
- Uber receipts/invoices
- Gym membership contract
- Magazine subscription
- Health Insurance

I know most of these aren't the official documents they want to see but we figured just send whatever we can think of.

Hi may i ask when you submitted your app and when your BGC started? I submitted in March 14 and stuck on BGC since July and haven’t heard anything yet.

For utilities, they don’t allow you to have 2 names for the account but i called Telus and was able to add my spouse’s name on the actual bill not the account. They said they could combine your name or add “care of” so our bill looks like this

The issue is at this point you can’t go back and change everything but this is a good learning opportunity for those applying. Did you shop online? Anything is better than nothing.

YES I remember getting mine when I was a visitor unless they changed laws. Visitors should have the right to drive so a license is needed. But double check this with others please.
