Hi all,

I am just wondering at what stage of the spousal sponsorship process are we allowed to apply for Alberta health insurance?

In Alberta you can apply at any stage. Make sure your spouse is with you at registry office as they will need their health card as you will become a dependant under their profile.

Just adding on - you can apply at any stage as long as you hold valid status in Canada. They won't let your sponsor add you to their alberta health care without proof of valid status. We got it all sorted out at the license bureau.

Sorry to revive an old thread but want to make sure I understand.

I can add my spouse to my provincial Alberta healthcare if he holds visitor status?

Yes as long as he have a visitor record or permit which most time they dont issue it when you arrive to Canada or stamp on his passport which give him max 6 month of coverage base on when he entered Canada.

In another thread someone mentioned he can request a stamp at the immigration kiosk when he lands. Just trying to gauge whether that'll raise any flags with immigration as to why he wants a stamp when he doesn't need it. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated!
