Applying for Open work Permit for COOP

Hi Guys,

So my question is that I have applied for study permit from Pakistan and for my program it mentions that:

This program has an unpaid work requirement (field or work placement). You are required to apply for
a Co-op Work Permit along with your Study Permit. The Co-op Work Permit is issued for all paid and
unpaid work experiences related to an academic program

Where as when I applied, I did mention in my statement of purpose that I have a work placement and also my offer letter states that, but other than that, I did not fill out a separate form or anything like that where I could've mentioned my open work permit for COOP.

Regardless, would it be possible for someone to apply for coop work permit after they have landed in Canada or would the border agent want the work permit along with it or was it mandatory to apply along with your study permit application. Because I am sure that coop work term won't start in the first semester.

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Coop will likely start after you start your study here, you can apply once you get here. Also, I'm not sure about coop work permit but border agents do give out regular work permits.

Thank you for your response, yes I am aware of the fact that border agents can issue work permit at the border and add an extra comment at the bottom of the study permit but I guess I can ask for the coop permit as well (once my visa gets approved)....

If your co-op is mandatory, then co-op permit will be issued alongside your study permit when you arrive in Canada. if your co-op is mandatory, you should have got a letter attached to your offer letter stating that a co-op work permit should be issued to you. If you did not attach this letter in your study permit application or if you do not have the letter. Then you can apply for the co-op work permit after you land in Canada, you will have to apply before the co-op starts and you will have to pay an extra fee for applying and it will take 2-3 months to get.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your detailed reply as well. Well on my offer letter, it does indicate that I have co-op mandatory for my program and I also mentioned that in my SOP, but I didn't fill out a separate application or something for a work permit, that's all... So I'm not sure if they issue it by default as long as it's mentioned on the offer letter or I needed to fill out a form or something. But never the less I'm aware that i can apply afterwards as well....

If it is in your offer letter, then you should get it with your study permit. You don't need to make a separate application for co-op work permit when you are applying for the study permit.
