No, not necessarily. You can keep trying everyday by removing the "X" from the temp file number. See first link in my signature...

Actually for myCIC, you don't need anything. There is one option of linking with just the name, DOB / place of birth, passport number etc.

Temp. file number is XF000000000 and final file # just you need to remove first X i.e "F000000000"

Canada post shows file was received in Ottawa on May 28. Can anyone tell me when I will get the official email that my file is in the system?

No it starts with F. It's the same number as my temp. file number after removing the X. I was kinda surprised to see the status as well, I don't think anyone in this forum mentioned this status before.
