Hello everyone!

I am sponsoring my partner under the conjugal partner category of the family class. We just received the email to say that I have been approved as a sponsor!! I was just wondering what I can expect next, and how long we might wait for the next step? I’m finding it hard to get to the correct info as all the acronyms are a bit confusing.

Our Timeline:

May 2nd - application received
June 18th - email message that our application had been received (AOR?)
June 24th - status changed online to “decision made”
June 25th - email message requesting us to pay for biometrics. Paid and uploaded the receipt on the same day.
July 2nd - email received that I have been approved as a sponsor

Now that sponsorship approval is out the way, is it pretty much smooth sailing from here? Just a matter of time? He has a clean background of course and great health!

Let me know your experiences :)

SA simply means that you tick the basic boxes required to be a sponsor, i.e. not on welfare, not bankrupt, not in prison etc. They haven't even looked at anything to do with your partner or the relationship yet.

Hardly. Sponsor approval is the very easy and straightforward bit, now comes the real scrutiny. But if you have all the forms correctly completed and all the attachments, then you should be good. You will of course be subject to close scrutiny for conjugal in particular, but it has been managed many times where there are true barriers.

Steps and stages described here:
https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Spousal_Sponsorship-Canada/FAQ_-_New_Application_Forms#What_are_the_main_stages_and_steps_of_the_overall_process.3F

In answer to your next question, expect it to take 'months' (think several!) yet before final decision.
