If they ask you, you can't lie, and you can't obfuscate. If you're in secondary screening and they're asking you "Who precisely are you visiting and what is your relationship?" obviously you're going to have to say girlfriend. You should never be lying. Lying will get you banned from Canada.

What @mau123 is talking about is primary inspection: "Why are you visiting Canada?" "Tourism, going to see Niagara Falls and Toronto." not "I'm here to visit my girlfriend, and I earlier applied for an IEC to be with her more but was refused because I missed my biometrics deadline." and not "I'm not seeing anyone here. I don't know anyone in Canada at all."

But if they don't pull you into secondary, don't worry.

Ok thank you that clears things up, Im much more comfortable with this as I don't want to lie at all, Ive been through primary before so will just say tourism and have a plan and my documents on hand to show if requested.

Thank you very much for your help both of you guys

Just to add that if for some reason you are pulled to secondary that CBSA have the right to inspect your phone and any laptop should they decide to. So given you were on the verge of arriving on an IEC it makes sense that you might have correspondence, cv/ resume etc about job hunting which could create completely the wrong impression for a failed IEC applicant arriving as a visitor. So just saying as there is no way to predict if they would go to that extreme in secondary but maybe some housecleaning might be prudent.

As above answer questions from CBSA honestly but do not volunteer anything extra by starting up a chat they have a job to do and volunteering information is not recommended as just leads to questions they might not have planned to ask you.

Ultimately very easy to overthink everything and find enter the country with no issue at all.

Good point! Thank you for your help, I actually thought that too, seen a lot of immigration shows on TV with this exact scenario haha

I actually planned on using the 1 year time frame for entry after getting the POA letter, so my plan was not to actually go to Canada until mid 2020 anyway so I don't have any work CVs or information with me, just movies on my laptop and my phone messages only show plans Ive made with my girlfriend whilst in Canada which are all tourist things anyway so I think that would actually be in my favor.

Also do you think I should reapply for my IEC now or wait and try and get my decision reconsidered by contacting immigration?
Ive already sent a message via their site, but Is there any way I can talk to an actual human about this?

I don't know how far a reconsideration is going to go. Why exactly did you miss the biometrics deadline, and did you request an extension?

I live in a different city than where the centre is and couldn’t get there due to being swamped with work, I’m self employed, I did write a email to them asking for an extension but they had previously already given me one so I’m assuming they just thought no and refused it.

I’ve seen posts where people have been reconsidered but I think that was due to their biometrics not being uploaded onto the system in time and them not actually missing the deadline.

I think I could stand a chance of getting a place again if I re apply as it’s early in the year and I’m sure they usually add extra spots to the UK’s quota once they are filled based on previous years stats I’ve look at.

I’m not sure if it would look better if I am in the pool waiting for a spot when I turn up to my vacation or not, but I guess if I’m in the pool and have reapplied then I definitely won’t be reconsidered for the original spot.
(This is all assumptions)

Hey buddy, just a quick question do you think Id be better just going back into the IEC pools right away, rather than trying to get my decision changed?
