I would be flying to montreal from india. The layovers [with cheapest fares] options I have are london or frankfurt, and i have a canada student visa. Do i still need a transit visa. Contacted airlines but they want me to contact the respective immigration departments.

Experts shed some light here!!

Yes, the airlines are right when they say that you have to see each countries rules. You don't need to call them, all this information is available online.

London ( UK )

Frankfurt ( Germany )

Edit: Better source for Germany ( Schengen )

You don't need a transit visa for traveling through Frankfurt and London as long you won't leave the airport, which you won't so don't worry and book your flight.
Avoid traveling through USA as it requires a transit visa.

Yes booked a flight via london to montreal, if you have a valid canada or usa visa and a connecting flight within 24 hours of your arrival in London, then you don't need a UK transit visa. Thanks everyone :)
That's a relief! Did you have to travel to different terminals or had the connecting flight from same terminal?

Depends on which airlines you are flying with. If you are flying British Airways, then you will have the same terminal.

I'm flying with British Airways but have different terminals

Where are you flying from ? Most flights from India land in Terminal 5 in heathrow. Also ensure that you avoid changing airports in London.

Most airports will have airside (after security) transfer from different terminals. Unless you have a short connecting time between your flights, this is not that big of an issue.

I land on terminal 5 and have next flight from terminal 3 with 4 hours and 10 minutes of layover

Hi All,
I am planning to immigrate to Canada through Ottawa. While checking for direct flights I got a flight with layovers at both Frankfurt and London. Do I need a transit visa. I have received my COPR and will be carrying that with me. Can someone provide more information on this.
Thanks
