Sorry, I might have misunderstood you, did you mean you managed to link your sponsorship application without an AOR? And if so what did you used to link it to your gckey?

Ohh I called CIC last week and asked for a temporary file number which they gave me XF000XXXXXX. I tried linking file today and removed X from the file number and it worked. plus last name and passport information.

Ahh okay, I might give them a call then. Also, did you use sponsors last name, or applicants?

They said my application has been received but not opened yet so no AOR at this time, told me to wait.

Called them yesterday, after 35 mins of wait got to rep who was very helpful . She mentioned the documents are yet to be reviewed and provided me with a temporary file number starting with XF.

Quick Question - I have applied for extended stay to my wife, after few days they have asked for a medical examination to be done in 30 days. But I have got an email this morning that the application is approved. Do I still need to undergo medical tests or I can ignore since the application is already approved ?

U can use the XF number to link ur file. Under application number just remove the X and thsts ur file number

tried a few times but still not able to link it.

It's very rare and uncommon to be able to link prior to AOR.
