Is it possible to get a leave of absence (LOA) from my master’s program as an international student

Yes many approvals as long as CIC thinks it is a valid reason for having to stop your studies and considering you have access to medical care in Canada. Sounds like you have TMJ. Would focus on why you couldn't seek outpatient therapy in Canada while studying.
My doctor at my university gave me a mouth guard but it didn't solve the situation since I encountered problems in swallowing and chewing food. I had to check with my orthodontist in my home country who knew about this problem. He tried all solutions to treat it until he figured out that I need surgery to treat this Bruxism (teath grinding). I have the medical report where he explains that I need a medical leave which was accepted by Queen's University Grad school. I don't have a report which shows that I made a surgery for my Bruxism, you think it is better to contact my doctor to get a report which shows the dates of the surgery I did ? Note that my medical leave was from May 1 2018 to august 31 2018, I did two surgeries, one in June and one in July. Thank you for your encouraging and wise message. I really appreciate it.

To put it simply, yes you would still qualify for PGWP despite medical leave if you fulfill certain criteria. Before you would get your PGWP, CIC would check whether you were following all conditions of your study permit successfully or not.

Check the section : What counts as an authorized leave from your studies?

I appreciate it. Thank you.
Take care.

Yes would include some form of proof of your surgery. Medical records, receipts, etc. something to show that you were actually undergoing serious treatment. Would also include why you needed to return home like family help after procedures, limited dental coverage in Canada, etc. You seem to have a genuine medical reason south some proof you should be fine.

Hi, thank you for your message. I have a soft and hard copy letter from the school of graduate studies that they approve my medical leave from May 1 to August 31 2018 (summer term). Also, I still have the medical report from my doctor where he explains my situation and recommends a medical leave. Any suggestions?

One final question, does having a 4.0 GPA help in getting PGWP?
why would you need a leave of absence between May and Aug? Your are not expected to take classes during the summer (unless its a program specific requirement)... but not taking summer classes should never have a negative impact on your study permit.

While on a study permit you are expected to be enrolled full-time from Sep to Apr... May-Aug are summer months during which you can work, study, both or just rest but you don't have to do any of them, at least it is not mandatory.

It is required in my master's program to study in the summer.

what do you exactly mean?
Each University has its own policies for these situations so get in touch with them and make sure you do everything you are supposed to, as opposed to just not enroll.

I am sure they should have an international students office where they can assist you at every step.

Are you talking about PGWP eligibility if I had an authorized medical leave or about taking a summer term? Thanks

As long as you go through the appropriate channels it will not have any negative impact.
Its a legitimate thing to do
Just for others. CIC has the last word on whether they feel that absence is acceptable. Some schools allow LOAs for almost any reason. In this case there was a good reason but the schools approval does not guarantee you will fine for PGWP. Think about your reason, talk to your international student coordinator or even a lawyer and get their opinion.

Exactly, but on CIC website (PGWP section) they stated about 4-5 reasons for leave for students (medical leave, family emergency, etc...As you said above, I will show my surgeries reports and how the doctors treated the medical problem. I have nothing more to show. However, I have searched the whole forum page by page, never saw a case similar to mine. I hope it works..Thanks again
