Hi All,
We have just arrived in Canada since a few months. My Son - who has just turned 5 years old - does manifest some signs which are quite characteristic of the Autistic disorder syndrome (ADS) (difficulty to focus on something, speech problems), but so far we cannot certify that for sure, nor are we in measure to ascertain which degree of autism he is subject to.
We would like to ask what is generally the very first step to make: do we have to book an appointment with a GP first and then he will redirect us to other specialists, or can we choose a specialist by ourselves?
Is there an organism which we must visit in order to determine whether a child has ADS or not?
About funding, are we entitled to some forms of government help if it is established that the child has ASD (Just for info, he is 5 years old now)?
Many thanks.
Regards,
Raph
