Ohh wow thank you so much! But we can't be considered as common-law right? Since we haven't been together for straight 1 year. The thing is that the only way I could get a work permit is through the Spousal Sponsorship.
No you can't apply common law at all, you need to live together for 12 months straight and you need to prove it by having lots of joint accounts too, which means you have to come here and stay for a full year before you can apply for sponsorship (you need to extend your visa which isn't guaranteed 100%)
If you got married you can apply right after and you don't need to be living for 12 months together like common law

We probably have a month to get some joint accounts. Will be arriving by April 16 and plans to get married by May. I think that would be enough I guess. Long distance sucks lol
Hopefully it will be enough for you, prepare well though and I wish you all the best, and I feel you, long distance is very hard, I had to endure 4 years of long distance before I got married with my husband

Do we need to get married first before doing that joint accounts thing? or we could just do it before getting married? lol I just need clarification. thankful for this forum before arriving there. We are in a long distance for 3 years and its hard.

You can do both but I think it's best to do it before getting married and if for some things they need you to be married like employment benefits then you can do it after getting married

You're welcome :)
Hi! I know this is a very dumn question. But just wanna make sure if when you are applying for common-law do we need any license or certificate that we are legit in a common-law relationship? Or just having lots of proofs that we are living in the same address for 12 straight months is fine?

You just need to prove living together for 12 months, no license or certificate needed for immigration purposes

When were your apps received? I think I said this in another thread, but I'll repeat here: I'm an October applicant and waited exactly 4 months for my OWP approval. The week or two before my approval, I was feeling the same nerves as you. Hang in there. Hope you get good news soon.

November 27th. Just difficult that everyone else in November received theirs and quite a few people in December. I don't understand how December applicants can get it before November. Anxiety is at a high level at the moment.
