Hi guys, well I just want to share my experience of how to get a marriage certificate in Ontario using the Emergency service (when you have a proof of urgency). In that way you only need to wait a couple weeks (probably even less, like in my case) instead of the 10 weeks that normally takes.
Well, I got married at the end of May 2015, we asked to our officiant to send the paperwork to the Office of the Registrar General (ORG) by Express post (the office is in Thunder Bay, ON). Only five days after we applied to get or certificate online (even when the webpage told us that our marriage was a recent event and it will take 10 weeks), we paid the rates and we printed the confirmation page.
After, we write a letter explaining of reasons of urgency to request the emergency service (an example of the letter will be post below) to be send to the (ORG) with our proof of urgency. For this step you can send it by fax, however, if you are in Toronto you can go in person to the ServiceOntario centre (47 Sheppard Avenue East, unit 417) and they could send it directly and faster to the corresponding office at ORG. Both options work.
We got our certificate after 6 days of send the letter, the proof of urgency and the order number (payment receipt).
Tips:
+ Always say the truth about your status in the letter. Be kind in what you write.
+ Send also the confirmation page of the payment of the certificate (the page that have the Order Number).
+ Present a proof of urgency reliable (visa about to expire, letter of the government saying that you will be deported, medical appointment out of Canada, so on).
+ Apply to get the marriage certificate AFTER you are sure that all the paperwork (that you officiant must send) have been received at the ORG. (that's why we use express post).
I hope this can be useful.
Cheers!!!
