So, I did my soft landing this Friday on 15th Feb. There was a discussion few days back on whether Canadian agents are rude or not. And I guess someone mentioned that they would like to assume even when Canadians are rude they are not so rude.

Well, I can report first hand and can tell that not only can they be rude but they can be downright condescending to people. So, just doing the landing kind of gave me a glimpse of why things may be so slow but I won't go there for this post.

So, there was a long queue after the immigration and anyone who has done landing at Toronto airport would know that you are then told to go in to another room where the actual landing process takes place. This room is not exclusive to only PR people but even people coming on student visas, parents visa have to go in there. I don't know what other criteria is there but there was a person who had a US GC and wasn't doing landing and had a connecting flight but was told to go in to this room.

Anyways, the queue was long and one could hear the conversations of the agents with people and two agents were really in their elements. I don't know what was wrong .. may be they were having a bad day but I haven't seen such aggressive, rude, confrontational agents even in USA. I won't disclose details of their gender or looks so as not to prejudice anyone who is reading this.

But below are two samples of their conversation.

There was one old gentleman who was in a wheelchair. One of the agent asked him "Sir, What do you do?". This guy was coming from Dubai and says "I'm an art teacher in Dubai".

Agent - "So you are an art teacher in a Wheelchair? How can you be an art teacher in Wheelchair?"

Unfortunately, it is difficult to really tell tone of the agent here. It was not nice, to say the least. I was shocked the way the comment was made / question asked. I just couldn't believe my ears and I looked around and people behind me in the queue had same expression of disbelief on their face.

Sample 2: I don't know why a person who is already a PR is sent to this room. Anyhow, this person was already a PR. Below was the conversation

Agent: Where do you live?
Person: Brampton
Agent: What was your category in which you immigrated
Person: PNP
Agent: Which Province?
Person: Manitoba
Agent: So you were nominated by Manitoba .. how are you living in Brampton?
Person: I couldn't find job there and then I got job here so I moved here?
Agent: "Don't bull shit me" ..(Yes this was said) How can you say there are no jobs there? There are so many jobs there
.....
And this went on and on for few minutes.

The agent was so confrontational. Okay my knowledge may be limited here but as far as I know the agent had no business in asking the person why he moved to some other province and even if it is allowed I don't know why it had to be that way.

By this time almost everyone waiting in the queue was praying not to get these agents. Luckily, someone came around and asked all the people waiting to go around (In Toronto there are windows at the back as well where Service Canada office is). There were three agents there and really polite. The agent who did paperwork for us was really good as well. So, personally my experience wasn't bad apart from the long wait which I think could have been avoided.

On the return journey, I was a little skeptical and was expecting to get a little hard time from US agents as I had to enter on a Automatic Visa Revalidaton. But the agent on US side was extremely sweet. Didn't even ask questions like why you went to Canada? Why you were there etc etc. Saw the documents did the job in 2 minutes.

So yeah in the end agents (or Canadians in general) are people and all kind exist anywhere in the world.
Good Representation of what an actual scenario can look like at YYZ. Canadians are deem polite, but they have police, military etc. as well (so they have to stick to what their profession demands, but not impoliteness). And Immigration agents everywhere are I think trained to raise questions on every not normal looking scenario. The agent in the first case was a lil insensitive I would say. But in the second case, the person with MPNP bore some ethical responsibility to stick with the Province (which people normally dont and agents know about this).

Good that your paperwork went seamless on both the Ports. Hope to get an similar experience at the window when I land :) . Congratulations for the landing.

Hi All,

I am planning to land in Canada during July/Aug before my medical expiry.
Due to my contractual requirement with my employer I have to stay with them until end of this year otherwise I will have to bear financial loss.
To avoid this loss what could be the possibilities?
My initial thoughts in this scenario are as below;
1. To do a soft landing and return after three weeks. Now with the current trend of getting PR Card in 60 days in average, I will not get PR card in 3 weeks hence I am thinking to provide my friends address for PR card shipment.
2. if I have to go for the option of PRTD afterwards, how difficult is the process under humanitarian basis? What do I have to provide to support my application?
If I go for option 1 which looks very possible, I am just thinking if I will be asked to collect my PR cards personally.
Can anyone share or is aware if there have been any cases where PR card has to be collected personally?
I am trying to figure out my possibilities before I make a decision even If I have to go permanently in first go.

Your views please.
Thanks

Any possibility of personal collection? I read in this forum sometime ago when person was asked to collect personally.
My plan is to land in Halifax NS as I am PNP applicant and planning to give address of a friend in Ontario will it be fine?

As far as I know, you have to only surrender driver's license from other Provinces. I don't think you need to surrender your countries Driver's License. In fact, I think you can use the back home Driver's License to get the new one easier. Otherwise, you have to go through all the classes and exams.
Thanks! This makes so much sense!

Dear all,
my status is still review required for funds since 22June, then nothing has happened since then. Does it mean my case is just awaiting for an officer to be reviewed? i raise CIO last week and the response is simple: notification will be given in due course.
but i heard someone told me that i am in a very deep background check and only if the check finished that the vo would give me my final decision?
can anyone tell me which one is right? if i am in a deep background check, how can the vo check my background? does the CIO authorize a third party?
thank you very much
raise a CSE

As far as I know yes you need to surrender your old license. You should be able to drive in Bangladesh using your Canadian license for any short term stay.
I hear in Toronto you don't have to relinquish the old license. But in other cities & provinces, it's a must.

When you soft land, take a new passport photo in Canada and leave it at your friends address incase CIC asks you for new passports for your PR card, that way your PR card can be brought to you by friends or family visiting your country of residence.
PRTDs are gotten quite easily. A colleague of mine got his with amazing speed and there was no need to apply for it on humanitarian basis (I don't even understand why you asked this tbh). It's just like a visa which you kind of are entitled to as a landed PR without your PR card. so don't fret too much about it.
Since you'll be away for months after you land, there's a very high chance your PR card will be ready and can be brought to you by someone travelling to your base (as I explained earlier).

I think the address you give should co-incide with the address of the Province you're landing at. Find a friend in NS whose address you can provide at the airport for the PR card & who can collect it & keep it for you till you find a way to transport it to your base. This just makes things easier generally.
The PR card is sent by mail. And a new photo request which happens quite often is also sent via mail.

@tobs, what if they say 'eligibility is in progress'?
I haven't seen a GCMS note that says eligibility in progress. that's why I didn't mention it in the list.
I think eligibility 'in progress' is a made up term by call & CSE agents for RR cases.

You need to provide updated job duties letter which resolves their concern and upload it ASAP using the webform / CSE.
