Sigh. This whole process is so complicated.I just hope and pray I can recover from this injury and get back to work soon.
Disability can be a factor if it potentially leaves the sponsor open to exploitation by an applicant.
While this is not the case here, we have seen examples of this on the forum in the past, relating to "romance scams".

A particularly distressing case happened where the severely disabled "victim" found it almost impossible to believe that they were being scammed. I don't know what happened in the end...

It can also be a factor in financial support, as canuck78 said. While an app cannot be refused for the sponsor being on disability, an app can be refused under any circumstances if IRCC doesn't believe the couple can support themselves.

You referring to a case on the forum from a few years ago? Wondering if it is the one I'm thinking of.

That sucks to hear.I hope it didn’t end badly.
I also hope IRCC doesn’t think she’s scamming me.

I recall one disabled woman was sponsoring her husband from Cuba. She was battling cancer and I believe she was in a wheelchair. Many red flags. Initial application was rejected and she appealed the decision. She persisted and after many years the appeal was successful. Then after he landed, he left her shortly afterwards. Her last few posts on the forum was a heartbreaking update, and then she was never heard from again. I wonder what happened to her. So sad.

The one I'm thinking of was blind with a whole bunch of other issues and had never actually met the scammer. She said some very strange things.

Wow that sounds even worse. At least the woman I am thinking of had a long distance relationship for many many years and had many visits.

I'll see if I can track down the thread I'm thinking of.

Unfortunately we have seen many. Some people don't want to believe people have ulterior motives. Lots of fraud from people using wives or husbands to immigrate as well doesn't only have to involve a Canadian and a foreigner. Would make sure to protect yourself. Have a pre-nup if you have a home, potential inheritance, savings, etc.
