Hi just to let you know the basic guide clearly states to not include Sponsors. U as a PA only will be one if you are the only one getting sponsored. If u have dependents then that number changes.
Here is the instructions from the guide for Question 3:

"Write the total number of family members included in your application. This includes yourself, the principal applicant, and any family members, whether they will travel with you to Canada or not.

Note: Do not include the sponsor or family members that are already permanent residents or Canadian citizens. Individuals that will not be included in the undertaking should not be included in this total."

Thank you so much. That is my understanding as well but just as pointed by another member who claimed that he included the sponsor when he linked his application so I got confused and thought I might be wrong. Thank you for pointing it out. But for now, whether to include or not to include the sponsor, GCKey account could not find the application.

I got the AOR (email) on Jan 29 and still could not link the application in GCKey account (application could not be found), is this normal? How long would you need to wait until the application can be found?

Same. I am waiting to link application. Thanks to those who clarified the Sponsor is not included in # of people in application only the PA and applicable dependents- when linking.

Got AOR today! (Feb 1 2019 in Australia, Jan 31 in Canada)

Application received by IRCC on Dec 3 2018

PA country of residence is Australia, country of citizenship is USA

I was also able to link online account (didn’t work when using name/place of birth, but worked with application number/UCI/passport details)

I think GCkey applications can be linked only from the PA’s side. ECAS updates for both the sponsor and PA. Also give it a few days sometimes it can take 3-5 days to link. Otherwise like the other member suggested, use UCI etc.

FYI I liked to my account (sponsor), and I included myself (sponsor) in the # of people, since that is what the instructions to link said to do... worked for me.

I was specifying for the form itself not linking. I am sorry if I misunderstood.

THIS IS SO CONFLICTING.... so you linked the application to the SPONSOR'S GCKEY account? //// Are you acting also as the representative and submitted "Use of a representative" in your sponsorship proposal? .... It seems the application should be linked to the PA's account when not using a representative. Also conflicting that you included the sponsor in the # of people in the application.... it would be 1 (PA) + dependents if applicable no? I am so confused now. Will try linking to PA's account tomorrow (Again). Hope it works! Will USE UCI and passport info and such.....

Thank you for pointing it out. But for now, whether to include or not to include the sponsor, GCKey account could not find the application.

Just to clear the confusion up for everyone:

• Initial paper application (IMM 0008) - Question 3 asks "How many family members, including you, are in this application", the answer to this is 1 if it is just yourself, and then +1 for each dependent listed on the form.
• Linking to GCKEY, it asks "Number of family members, including the primary applicant, that are part of this application", this includes your sponsor, so the base number is 2, then +1 for any dependents on your application.

I recently posted the below to our November thread and we've had some positive results with linking:

I followed the guide in the Google sheet and it worked last night:

1. Choose Application Number and Family Name - Copy/paste application number from email (including the F) and enter PA's last name
2. Select one of two options next: Place of Birth or Passport Details
3. Fill PA's info for the option you selected above and not both at the same time
4. Put the Details of the City where the PA plans to reside after getting PR, this info should match with what you put in form IMM0008
5. Put your marital status in.
6. Put '2' as the number of members in the application for sponsor + spouse (add +1 per dependents)
7. NOTE: Sometimes putting MARITAL STATUS as SINGLE also works.

I found my passport details didn't work, but the Place of birth worked the first time.

If this fails, people have suggested putting a space after your place of birth.

You have got that correct that the PA’s account is the one used for tracking not the sponsor unless they are representatives. And for linking specifically, as JoshC suggested and accurately mentioned, You would follow the instructions that he has added to his comment.
