Parental Sponsorship 2019 Question

Hi Everybody,

I have a quick question and i'd appreciate your input.

I'm a naturalised Canadian citizen and sponsored my wife in 2015. She landed and became PR early 2016. If everything goes according to plan, she will apply for her citizenship in a few months.

anyhow, we're both interested in sponsoring our parents. She's looking to sponsor both of her parents and i'm looking to sponsor my mother this year. unfortunately my 2016 income doesn't allow me to sponsor both her parents (as co-signer) and both of mine. so i'll probably look into sponsoring my father next year.

What implications if any are there that she herself was sponsored by me back in 2015/2016. Is it a non-factor? Could it mean she can't sponsor her parents until she becomes a citizen and no longer a "sponsored PR"?

sorry if i provided TMI,

thanks in advance

Hi all,

I have one question that Does Maternity pay considered as Income ?
I want to sponser my parents . My wife was on maternity leave in 2017 and if we calculate maternity pay as income then we met the income requirements.

Thanks

Yes maternity payments qualify as income but EI otherwise does not count.

Hey Tajinder,

I'm not too familiar with Maternity leave, but a quick google search shows that Mat leave is taxable in Canada. I'd think it's considered as income, however do more research.

good luck

Hello Everyone,
First of all - this is a great guide and help... thank you
I have a couple of queries and would appreciate any help. My father was a seafarer and i am sponsoring him under the parent sponsorship for PR.

I am trying to figure out what to enter in the imm5669e_background declaration the amount of detail required. It is asking for 10 years history - which is there but my father likely boarded about 30 vessels in that time frame from various countries depending on the closest port for the ship. for the personal history how do I provide that information?

1. The time on the vessel as out of the country - it could be multiple countries in the same time frame some at the port on the vessel some off the ship.
2. The airports he took a flight to meet the vessel. when I am adding these up there are more than 100 entries if I go into minute details.

Any thoughts ? should I just write the time he was on the ship and at home as international at home. The status of a seafarer is not the same as regular travelers.

Secondly, this is more for clarification ( the previous discussions it seems like I will have to co-sponsor to meet the requirements)
I am confused about the co-sponsorship part of the application. I am assuming I will have to co-sponsor my wife's application for her parents. She was on Mat leave for 2018 so she has no significant income for that year. But has required income for the preceding years. The combined income would qualify both of us. Should we be co-sponsoring each other's applications to make it unambiguous? If so, how would I calculate dependents for both sides? My parents + her parents + our family here?

thank you in advance
