I had the same thing after I submitted my additional documents. It changed back to In Progress a few weeks ago.

Agent told me IT HAS NOT STARTED YET.
GCMS note has record that as of June 15th 2018 the application File PS -
(June 15 2018 is the date when Criminality was updated as 'Pass')
For 6 months, my application has been locked in and sleeping by itself without any interruption lol.

There are tons of variety of information exist in this web community. Some users even believe that it may not be completely correct what agents advise us regard our application process over the phone. Like, some users says it may not true the security stage does not start even if applicants found 'Not Start' on gcms note. Just everyone may know Background check and Security assessment take up the longest parts in the entire processing time, for sure. But, I sincerely hope all applicants get approval PR within framed processing time or earlier than it. phew....

As far as my experience is concerned the agents reply with pre written emails with limited information. These emails have same wordings and they use these same wordings again and again for replying different queries, like automated replies. Well, i may be wrong but as i said earlier, ive experienced it .

First time posting .... similar timeline, application received sept 14 2017, our work permits expire jan 31 so going to the border today to attempt to get renewal. Spoke with cic in December who said we should have pr by April 24. Not applying online as need msp coverage and as processing time for work permit is now 66 days I’d be in implied status which means no Msp! Really hoped I wouldn’t need to apply again, this process is never ending, i arrived in Canada what will be 3 years in March.
So fingers crossed everyone that we are greeted well at the border

Just got another ghost update today (haven't checked in two weeks though so could be anytime in the past 15 days). Here is my timeline:

I would say you are 1 step ahead, like, probably a real person worked on your file and updated it, but I think I've seen people in other threads getting 2 ghost updates, but getting the DM or ppr together with people belonging to the same AOR or application received "group." Would have to dig in the forums.
But anyhow, it means good news for you! Happy new year!
