Hi there, i was wanting to apply to get my mum a grandparent super visa. She lives in England and i live in Canada. My question is if she gets approved how would the medical work. i understand i would get her insurance from Canada that would cover emergency expenses only. She has COPD which means she has to take a few pills a day. How does she go about getting her prescriptions? Does she have to pay for them while here or can she get a years worth in England and bring them here?

Also after the two years is up, can she get sent back to England? or do you just reapply for the next 8 years?

Thanks in advance!

She can bring a maximum 90 day supply of medication with her. After that, she would have to visit a doctor here to get a new prescription (she will have to pay for this visit as well as the prescription).

Once the two years is up, she can apply for an extension if she doesn't wish to leave Canada. However sooner or later she will need to return home and remain there for a while (e.g. 1 year) before making another long trip to Canada. A super visa certainly doesn't allow her to come to Canada and stay for 10 years without leaving. It's still just a tourist visa.

Thank You very much for your reply! Is there a different route that you can think of that i would be able to bring my mum to canada, that she wouldnt have to come and go from Canada, as she would be giving up her home to come here.

You would have to apply for PGP if you qualify and get selected. With COPD she may struggle to pass the medical because of excessive demand on the Canadian healthcare system. COPD is an expensive disease to treat. You would be financially responsible for her for 20 years.

Supervisa insurance also is only really meant to treat emergencies. Once stabilized she would be expected to return to the UK to pursue further treatment or you would have to pay if she wanted to seek longterm treatment in Canada.
