I read that. The problem is that they don't have a status here (study or work permit), it seems that only the ones with status can extend their visa from whithin canada.

You are mixing up visitor status vs. TRV.Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me. I want to know if it is possible to extend or apply again for visitor visa of my parents while they are in Canada? Or they have to apply from outside of Canada and take the biometric again?
Thanks
Actually they are here now, and they visa will expire in July. We though that they had to be outside of canada to be able to apply again for visitor visa. They don't want to extend their stay this time they want to have another multiple visa. So you still think they can do that? You are mixing up visitor status vs. TRV.
If they want to stay in Canada longer, they need to apply to extend their visitor status. That has nothing to do with their TRV.
They cannot apply for a TRV from Canada. They will need to apply when they get back to their home country.Actually they are here now, and they visa will expire in July. Thanks a lot. They cannot apply for a TRV from Canada. They will need to apply when they get back to their home country.
so what is the difference between the TRV and the visitor status. Aren't they the same??They cannot apply for a TRV from Canada. They will need to apply when they get back to their home country.
As I already said, no.so what is the difference between the TRV and the visitor status. Aren't they the same??
Aha, Thanks, I didn't know that. So they can not apply for TRV from withing canada it's really difficult for them to take another biometric. I thought they could extend their visa from here.As I already said, no.
A TRV is simply a stamp in the passport allowing a person to board a commercial carrier to travel to Canada. It has nothing to do with status in Canada.
Visitor status is granted by CBSA when entering Canada and is what actually allows a person to stay in Canada.
See the processing times in link below, average currently for paper applications is 114 daysHi
I applied for extension of my mom's visit Visa while she's in Canada..applied one month prior to the visa expiry..applied on paper & it was delivered on Sept 14th. So far no reply from them on the extension..she will leave in jan or feb..what should I do if I don't get any response from the extension in the mean time? Please advise.
Extending the visa is for the time when a visitor wants to stay more than six months. BUT, When a visa is getting expired they have to leave the country and re-apply for a new visa. These are not the same things. I have recently had the same issue and found that they are two different after several questioning and searching.Hi

My mom has multiple entry visitor visa to Canada till 2023, last time she entered Canada was end of August, so she is suppose to leave Canada by end of February (within 6 months), now if i want to extend her stay here for another 6 months, I can do that online right ? And as long as i get a result from CIC, she can stay with us as implied status ??Extending the visa is for the time when a visitor wants to stay more than six months.
