Hey Everyone,

I'm a Canadian citizen and I met my girlfriend in Thailand around mid-November. I will be going back in early March to see her for 1 week.

She has never left Thailand and is terrified to do so, but now she is open to it and wants to "play with snow" lol. The distance is quite hard, but we are doing our best.

She is worried that her tourist visa will not get approved and it's stressing her out. She finished university recently and was working as a TV producer for about a month, but something unfortunate happened at work so she felt it was best to quit. She is also an acting coach (has clients), but I don't believe it's considered an actual business.

As of right now, she is unemployed and doesn't have a lot of money. She will be working at a university for 1 month and will be paid 100,000 baht ($4000 CAD) which is a quite a bit, considering people generally make 15,000-20,000/month. I suggested that she save her money and try to find some work in the meantime. She also moved back home to save money. She said her family could financially support her too.

I have a great job and am happy to provide financial support/letter of invitation. I'm afraid to buy round-trip airfare for her in case the visa is declined (what a waste!), but I want to do everything I can to make sure her tourist visa is approved.

Link to instructions for Thai residents: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5858E.pdf

How should we do this? and tourist visa under 6 months? over 6 months?

Ultimately, I'd like to sponsor her but it seems we would have to either get married or live together for 1 year... I really want to live together first just in case she ends up being crazy (you never know, lol).

Any help would be great!

You seem to be well aware of your GF’s case, and that a TRV for her is in doubt. She is right—she has a higher chance of getting denied than approved given her situation: no stable job, no savings, no travel history, and a Canadian boyfriend.

I do recommend taking the time to read similar cases by using the Search function on this forum; several of them have resulted in approvals, by being well prepared and well researched.

By the way, you must not buy tickets until a visa is approved, and you are not expected to present any with your application.

Thanks for your reply! If it makes a difference, she will likely come for 2 weeks only the first time.
