Hey Ibtee, It's more Production Technology & RE inclined and quite simple too. Hope it helps.

Ø Supervise field operations during any well re-entry operation.

Ø Develop specifications for and monitor and supervise well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and gas recovery for yyy.

Ø Analyze reservoir rock and fluid data to design optimum recovery methods and to predict reservoir performance and reserves.

Ø Monitor and forecast oil and gas reservoir performance and recommend oil recovery techniques which extend the economic life of yyy's wells.

Ø Conduct feasibility assessment studies for any new oil and gas assets for the company.

Her Current earnings is aaaaa.

We confirm that her performance is satisfactory and her conduct excellent. Kindly accord her the necessary assistance as she may require.

Kindly contact the Human Resources Department, the undersigned for further enquiries.

Yours Faithfully
for yyy

Note: Then I included Payslips and that's it.
Thank you, Tobs. It is quite well written. Do you have a fixed salary or it can vary? My salary is fixed+field bonus, so I'm not sure how to mention that in the letter. Maybe I can mention it like "He receives a minimum of XXX amount per month as fixed salary and additional amount as field bonus for the number of days spent in the field". I feel that I need to mention that part to justify the highly varying salaries that will be visible in payslips.
I also see that you didn't give any company profile, is it not that important?
For myself, I feel that my company's HR will not provide a letter of my taste and it may be easier to get a signature from my supervisor. Do you think it makes any difference?

Hey you can mention the bonus if you like but I my earnings were actually my annual earnings but I didn't state it and my payslips had some different amounts 'cos I had collected an advance but I didn't mention any of that. So I don't think it's extremely important to mention the bonus.
There's no need for a Company profile. Just ensure that the letter is on the company's letter headed paper with their email address, telephone number and website.
As for getting your supervisor to sign, there's no issue with that. I originally wrote the letter for my supervisor to sign it but then HR laid him off that week and they told me they would sign it. I think what some people do is attach the supervisor's business card with the signed letter. I don't think it's necessary to do so but it's better to do more than to do less.

Former Senior MWD/LWD Field Engineer here. I used NOC 2145 for my application. Unfortunately the company I worked for does not provide anything other than the "We hereby confirm that Mr.(Insert Name Here) has worked as a Field Engineer II from (starting date) to (ending date)". luckily, I have over 4 years experience as an Electrical Engineer capping my claimable points, and apparently IRCC cares more about what your score is based on.

Actually i've chosen 2145 when I saw in examples titles "logging engineer, oil wells" and "oil well logging engineer " but when looking at the main duties it is harder to justify or adjust to match exactly. 8232 close example titles are "logging and perforating operator - oil field services" "directional driller" "wireline operator" with duties that are closer to the real job. I feel the job is anyway still falls between the two NOCs.

what do you think would be better? Changing the NOC code to 8232 accompanied with LOE or stick with 2145 adjusting the employment reference letter.
if you were a Field Engineer at SLB like I was, I do think 2145 is the most suitable for us. Our responsibility on the job was more than what an operator entails. Looking at the NOC description, we can easily claim to:

  • Direct and monitor oil and gas drilling operations
  • Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells, well testing and well surveys
Furthermore, in Additional Informations we find this:

  • There is mobility between petroleum engineering specializations at the less senior levels.

As I have completed three courses while at Schlumberger, I believe this to be a non-issure

Maybe you should try drafting a letter in the IRCC format and asking your HR to sign and stamp it. Tell them it's for Visa purposes, you might be surprised at the positive response.

You probably dont know what's it like working for SLB. They have even refused to write this letter in English, as I am brazilian and having worked for their brazilian branch, they said they would provide it solely in Portuguese.
Luckily I am not claiming any points from my time there, and my current employer, where I have been for over 4 years, has agreed to write whatever I need.

"You probably dont know what's it like working for SLB" )))) Totally agree. I am at SLB as well. Working as an MWD/LWD engineer now. I know what you're talking about.

so to give a little bit of background about my case: I have a masters in petroleum engineering but the first job that I secured in this industry was at Weatherford as a LWD technician trainee ( a petroleum technician in other words) and my Job duties consist of a bunch of points all pointing out to one broader area which is servicing/maintenance of logging tools. This job would not fall under NOC 2145.
My job duties satisfies one to three points mentioned under either NOC 2212 or 8232. Is there anyone who has filed for their PR using one of these NOCs ?
Hi @viki1805
I am also an MWD/LWD field engineer working at SLB. Just wondering, how did your application go? Did you choose 8232? Was it accepted?
And thanks for starting this thread.

I think you're more 8232 (like me). Check out the example titles of both NOC. I think 8232 has more matching titles as well. However, the more important thing is to match responsibilities. Do you think that the responsibilities in 2145 can be more justified by you compared to 8232? Secondly, also note 2145 requires professional licensing prior to starting a job with that NOC.
@Lift48

You can change your NOC before you submit your application so long as it falls within the categories of Nocs for EE. Quite a number of people have done that.

Hi @mhdataa ,
Thanks for sharing sample letter. I see similar sentences in my job description as well. The 2145 NOC is so broad in responsibilities, most of them are more related to petroleum/drilling engineers working for operator companies. I found only one responsibility there that applies to MWD/LWD Field Engineers: "Direct and monitor oil and gas drilling operations"
and one more that could possibly be applied: "Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells, well testing and well surveys"
Whereas in 8232, although job titles are more towards operators, the responsibilities look closer to ours. But I'm still not sure though.
I got my ITA and still this question is open for me. I have to select one before submitting my eAPR.

Guys, I have a doubt. When you are filling out the EE with a skilled NOC starting with 63, 72, 73, 82, 92, the website asks you to consider 'date you first became qualified' as the date when you first became licensed in Canada. They clearly mention that for these above NOC, you cannot write the date first of qualification as the date you finished studies in that field. However, logically speaking there's no way a person who's never been to Canda would already be a licensed NOC holder there. How did any of you guys with an NOC starting with 63, 72, 73, 82, 92 fill it out?

Well, I put the date when I graduated my bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Although I am not sure if that's correct one, but that's surely the date when I was qualified to work in this position in my country. And in eAPR they didn't ask me to show any kind of trade qualification in Canada.

The date you got your university degree.
