Calculating work experience for FSW

Work experience can be calculated by:

  • adding up the number of continuous weeks of full-time (or equivalent in part-time) paid work (i.e., 30 hours/37.5 hours per week in one full-time job, a combined total of at least 30 hours/37.5 hours per week in more than one part-time job,
  • 15 hours per week in one part-time job over a period of two years, etc) in one or more skilled occupations at Skill Type 0 (Managerial occupations), Skill Level A (Professional occupations) or B (Technical occupations and skilled trades) of NOC 2011.
Note: Work in excess of 30 hours/37.5 hours of paid work over a period of one week cannot compensate for less than one year of full-time work experience.

hi thanks for the reply, the pay was monthly (fixed) and hours were full time for 2.9 years. i switched 1 company but never took a break from previous company. i should select 2 years or 3 years in the cic points calculator?

2 years as you have not yet met 3 years.

You must select the amount of years you have completed. So, as you mentioned, 2 years.

@arthurbr @legalfalcon I also have a similar situation. I worked for a company for 2 years than took 1 year break for MBA. And now have been working for another company for 2 years. However, I only want to claim points for these recent 2 years and not for the previous one.
Will it raise any kind of suspicion for VO or is it ok? Also should I mention that employment or not??
Please help!

You get points or the work experience you claim. So if your do not want to claim points for a specific period where you worked, you can remove it from your work experience, and no work reference letter will be asked. There is no need to explain either.

Please be advised that you get maximum MEC points for 3 + years of work experience. You have to meet 67 points out of 100. So if you do, you can remove any work experience for which you do not wish to claim points.

Just to complement his answer, you should mention your other experience after receiving the ITA, under personal history. This way, you won't need to provide proof of it, since you did not claim points.
