We are going through the common law family class papers and in the additional family information section it is asking for my mother, father, brother, and sister for a medical...it doesn't make sense that they have to get one when they are not going to be coming to canada, it's just me...so before I write Not Applicable on that section I just want to make sure that they are not suppose to get that done.

No they don't, are you sure you are looking at the right guide? You have to list your parents and siblings on the IMM 5406 but it doesn't say anything about medicals for them.

hey ajj..im from the states. I was just rereading the immigrants guide and finally noticed under Details of family members on pg 15 that it says "any other relative ( your mother, father, sister or brother for instance) is not considered a family member for the purpose of this application."

*******2018 Question*****

I realise the last message was in 2008 but I have exactly the same question. I know I have to complete 5406 and understand why, but the Basic guide 5525 says "All of your family members need to pass a medical exam, even if they aren't applying to come to Canada with you."

I guess I'm missing something here. If not, my 56 year old brother who has no intention of even visiting me in Canada is going to be mightily unhappy when he has to have a medical at my behest.

Am I misreading the guide or looking at the wrong one?

Hello,

For the purposes of the medical and background check, the IRCC has Family members defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.

My wife's immediate family is huge and I can only imagine the medical bill if I have to send them all for medicals.

Hope this helps :)
