All addresses where you have lived?

A friend did his Undergraduate from Waterloo Canada and now he is applying for PR and they have asked to provide all the addresses where he has lived. However, he lived for the first 8 months at a friends place and had not signed an official lease while his friends did. Is he only required to provide an address or the leases as well because he is not sure he would have that many leases with him. Also will living with his friend will have an impact on his PR application?

Only required to provide addresses. Copy of lease is not required and there is no problem staying with a friend.

Why are these addresses required? Any idea about that?

So they can do a thorough background check and have a record of your history so they can pull it up whenever required.
