"Manitoba Supporter" currently sponsoring his own sister via Family Sponsorship

Hi Guys,

I am stuck in this confusion and hope to get it cleared from the many experts who are on this forum.

A close friend of mine lives in Manitoba. I decided to make him my "Manitoba Supporter" but came to know that he is currently involved in paperwork to have his own sister (first-blood relative) sponsored and join him there. He is filing the "Family Sponsorship" application for her. He has also not been an "MPNP Supporter" for any applicant in the past either.

Now, in the Policy Guidelines for MPNP, the "Supporter" is defined as:

"A friend or distant relative in Manitoba who is a Permanent Resident or Citizen of
Canada, has been residing in Manitoba for at least one year, is economically
established and is not currently supporting the settlement of another applicant
through the MPNP."

It is also mentioned in the Policy Guidelines that:

"Support cannot be considered from individuals who are friends or distant relatives of the applicant
and are currently supporting the settlement of another individual through the MPNP or another
immigration program."

Here comes my confusion: Is my friend legally allowed to be my "MPNP Supporter" while under-going family-sponsorship application for his own sister? Will the "Family Sponsorship" application that he is filing for his sister be still considered as "another immigration program" in this case?

Appreciate your responses.

Regards,
Adnan

It clearly indicates that your friend is unable to support you as "Manitoba supporter" because of ongoing application to support his sister. Although there is no family sponsorship program being offered by Manitoba, supporting family member is still under skilled worker MPNP where family members can claim 200 points and friends can claim 50 points towards EOI.

Thanks for replying, Haider.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Family Sponsorship" should not be having any skills-requirement whatsoever. Having so wouldn't give it an essence of "Family Sponsorship". Won't make any sense either. Again, pardon me if I'm wrong as I don't have much knowledge of CIC rules and policies.

There is a category of "family sponsorship" of relatives (which include siblings) offered by CIC under extreme situation of that sibling. See the link below:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/other-relatives/who-you-can-sponsor.html
If I assume that your friend is sponsoring under the above mentioned category and not by MPNP-SW to his sister that is part of "family sponsorship" but this comes under umbrella of "Immigration".

Although there is a grey area in the subject discussion but you can better confirm from your friend regarding the nature of sponsorship application to his sister and accordingly if it is the same case as I assumed above then send an email to MPNP help https://www.immigratemanitoba.com/contact-us/

But, before going through with all of above, double check your points of MPNP since 50 points offered by your friend may not be enough to reach a respectable score of 550 plus to be considered for selection in EOI draw.

The only way that your friend could sponsor his sister under the Family Class is if he has no spouse/common-law partner, no children, no living parents and no Canadian citizen/PR family members. I suggest you confirm with him that it is actually a Family Class app.

Or living grandparents... They always seem to be forgotten :(

Hi All,Please help me clarify
For Manitoba PNP if you have a friend that wants to support you, must the person be residing in the same city you have chosen in your application or can the person reside in any city but in Manitoba?
Example my friend lives in Winnipeg and I chose another city in Manitoba, is it ok?or must I choose same city where my friend resides?

Please check the points first, you need around 550 points to be close to get your EOI being selected. On the other hand, you can still choose your destination outside of Winnipeg but in that case 50 points are being awarded and immigration officer thinks/sure that you are choosing destination just for the sake of extra points and not for permanent settlement as your friend is in Winnipeg. Unless you have very strong homework through research about your intended NOC to convince them that you have more jobs there rather Winnipeg and chances of which is not my much. Anyways, you can choose any destination but you need to convince the officer through evidence/support of settlement ability.

Thanks for your advise,
from your explanation it means irrespective of where the sponsor is in Manitoba the person can act as sponsor, however to be well convincing it better the sponsor is in the same city chosen in the application.

Hey People!

My sister in law is sponsoring me and her own brother we both have submitted the LAA together a week before and after. She has revived a call on Oct 22. On confirming my and her brother details like work, relation etc Everything went well from MPNP. They asked about my personal details and ect. she did answered well!. Now I see the assessment is complete for both me and for her brother. It is past 15 days we have not received LOA from MPNP?

I am worried!

Please advise!

Thanks,
God bless you All!
