I have read in a few topics that you can't apply for a Canadian passport on the same day as your oath. How true is that? Has anyone tried recently?

I have had friends who got their Canadian citizenship and went to do their passport the same day. However, this was about 5-6 yrs ago.

I knew earlier, the candidates had to wait for 48 hours to get the system updated.

However, I read recent comments that, CIC has updated their system. Some candidate claimed they could apply for passport the same day.

If you are a Canadian citizen, you can apply for a passport whenever you want. But if CIC hasn't updated its system, you might not be able to get expedited processing.

Depending on the emergency you can request passport canada to call CIC to get confirmation about your citizenship. So no set rules as 48 hrs. I recently applied passport for my wife the next day. If you request the ceremony incharge clerk to enter your name in the system depending on their mood that day they may do it. If you ask before the ceremony they may ask you to defer the ceremony. So thread lightly.

Hi there, I applied the same day of my oath.. an hour later actually, prepared everything, make sure your documents and photo and guarantor for passport are all ready.. They said you have to wait 3-5 days?m, but I give it a shot since I'm already there closer to the passport office, waited about extra an hour but its worth it..got my passport a week later best of luck

Hi,

My oath will be on a Friday. (They say to wait until 3 minimum business days of ceremony for applying for the passport.) So in my case, when exactly can I apply? Is it Monday?

Thanks!

*Ps: Neither the guarantor, nor any of the two referees were contacted by Passport Canada.

Yes. The moment your e-CAS states "Completed" - you're good to go. That 40 or 72-hrs. is a precautionary note (for IRCC to be able to update your status on GCMS).

It is wise to apply "in person". And not at a Service Canada office, but at a Passport Canada office.
Thanks Qorax for your valuable inputs.
