On September 10, 2018 IRB will begin holding hearing in Ottawa.
Refugee protection claims from claimants based in the National Capital Region (NCR) that are ready to be scheduled for a hearing will be automatically identified by the RPD and scheduled in Ottawa. A Notice to Appear will then be sent to claimants and their counsel confirming the time, date and location of the hearing. While the focus will be on scheduling claims from claimants based in the NCR (claimants and counsel, or just claimants), some claims in other cities may also be heard by members in Ottawa through the use of videoconference technology.
I hope this is good sign for claimant who are waiting for their hearing to be heard.

Nothing will change, lucky ppl will get their hearing within a year unlucky ones will wait for years and years. It's all about how lucky the claimant is.

Applied in March 2018. Received date for July and then postponed. Then sleep sleep sleep.
No traveling options, no proper work opportunities. Boring and boring
I think so this will shed some backlogged from IRB Montreal.
No updates for Toronto. I applied in Montreal on July 2018. Received date for March 2019 but unfortunately this date going to postpone. I don't know how long will they take to give me new date for hearing. My lawyer advised me 1 or 1.5 years.

I applied Oct 2017. The first interview was in Dec 2017 and postponed. The second interview was in August 2018 and postponed and now the third one is Sep 2018.
Given that you had to show that you can afford international tuition you may not qualify for legal aid or welfare. You will need to be assessed. Asylum claimants don't qualify for provincial health care, there is a separate refugee health program.
