Marrying a Canadian citizen while on a work permit

Hello everyone. I'm a citizen of Israel and I'm in Canada already for 8 months on a work visa that's valid for another 1.5 years. I work as a long haul truck driver in PEI. I have a few questions on marrying a Canadian citizen who is a dependant student right now.
First, how will the government look at this? Will they see this situation as a legitimate marriage? We can prove that we've been in a relationship but just wondering how hard that will be and what they will ask for.
I live right now in PEI because of the work permit and she studies and lives in Ontario. Could I apply for an open work permit after getting married and move to Ontario?
Would she still need to sponsor me as a spouse and is she eligible (she has a yearly income of around $10,000 and she receives OSAP for her education) ?
Overall, if you or anyone you know has been in a similar situation please let me know how the process would work. Thank you

Bit difficult! As she don't make enough for even herself. Let her find a solid job 1st. And if you truly love her you can wait too..

Actually according to the guidelines the sponsor(spouse only) doesn't necessarily have to show/have proof of income. Only if there is a dependant child does the sponsor have to show proof of income. Your only red flag that I see is the different province of residency.

No one here knows your relationship and can say whether it is genuine or not. Have a look at the checklist to see what proofs they ask for.

If you are living with your spouse, you can apply for sponsorship inland and include an OWP.

Yes, she needs to sponsor you. You will need to show how you guys will support yourselves. You can show any combination of your income, her income, savings, family assistance etc.

Not quite. The minimum income requirement is only if the sponsor or principal applicant have a dependent child with a dependent child of their own, i.e. grandchild of the sponsor or applicant.

That's what I meant ... They shouldn't have a problem when it comes to income just the distance might be an issue

I had one major problem that got my app sent back. A certain form that needs to be signed electronically, must also be signed by hand(which we didn't do) also I've seen some people say that the forms are some times updated to a newer version. Aside from that you should be good.

You don't qualify for an OWP just by marrying her and you can't apply submit an inland app with OWP unless you are actually living together.

As Canuck_in_uk stated above, you cannot do an inland application if you do not currently reside with your spouse. You can do an outland application, but in that case you wouldn't be able to apply for the OWP through the inland spousal process.

If you want to apply for the OWP through the sponsorship process, you will need to move in with your wife, then apply.

Yes, living in Canada WITH their spouse. Inland application is mainly for people in Canada living with spouse, but does not have a status on their own (meaning that were it not for the sponsorship application, they would be out of status).

In my case, for instance, I chose to apply Outland residing in Canada (application was processed in the US VO, which is for outland applications for people living within Canada). This is because I was on a study permit, then got my PGWP of 3 years. I did not have to rely on getting implied status + OWP through my sponsorship application to remain in Canada with my husband, so chose to apply outland as they process it faster (or at least they did, back in 2014).

If you think you have long enough on your permits to remain in Canada while the application is processed, then you can get married, remain living separately and apply outland (either as a resident of Canada, or your own country. Back then they allowed me to choose, but I don't think they allow that anymore). If you think you might become out of status during the processing time of the application, get married, move in and then apply inland.

Something else to consider: applying outland means, if there is an interview, you may need to fly out to the US or your home country for that (at least that was the case in 2014 when I made the decision, but I didn't have to do an interview). Applying inland means your stay in Canada is conditional to the sponsorship application, so if you leave Canada and for some reason are denied entry at the border, it is my understanding that the inland application is then cancelled (hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong).
