Yes Activity 1-4 is all about the SS status change:
Not started -> Submit -> Received by CBSA -> In Progress by CBSA
And the Activity 5 is just:
Sub-activity/Activity Type: Security
Status: In Progress

What is the criteria for one to be put into security screening? Upon calling IRCC the agent told me that every applicant goes through it. But what I cannot understand is how most of the applicants clear it in 1 -2 days while rest takes more than an year. What checks are actually being performed?

Sure. My AOR is dated to the 1-Oct-2017 and I'm a resident of Ukraine. There was no any ADR since the AOR.

I received CSIS note(1 page doc) cpl of days ago. The letter confirms that I am under SS. I received this letter by regular post.
It contains the following text:
CSIS PPU 005 Security Assessments/Advice - Your Security Screening case is still in progress. The information has been exempted from disclosure by virtue of one or more of sections 21 (as it relates to the efforts of Canada toward detecting, preventing or suppressing subversive or hostile activities), 22(1)(a) and 22(1)(b) of the Act until your case is completed.
Someone who has received CSIS notes, has something similar mentioned on there note?

In most cases, security is the last step, which begins after all other factors are passed.
Yes, I have, and mostly other applicants under security screening have received the same response. It just means that your security screening is still under progress. What is your date of beginning of SS?
I'm afraid you have a long wait in front of you. SS usually finishes from 6-12 months, depending upon the nationality. From where do you belong?

I'm in security or may be security screening since May 2018, based on my notes I ordered in June. However Eligibility and Criminality are still Not Started.
In your opinion is that normal ?, How is the officer in charge going to determine that the Eligibility and Criminality are Passed when the receive the security result ?.

Mostly, the security entries in the admissibility section in the notes are being redacted since November last year. What is the case in your notes? Redacted or revealed? What is your AOR and VO?

I don't know. I've only ordered the CBSA Notes.
No idea. I've ordered the CBSA Notes to find out about this, but as you can see, all the dates are blanked in this report.
I did receive couple of these notes with similar status when I was under security screening
