Thanks for your help.

I did look into what people say online and i found that most need 2-4 months between AOR and PPR.

I agree with you that people with different situations will have different processing time. But my case is really simple/straight-forward: single, PhD from a prestigious university, 1 year work in Canadian university (also a prestigious one) and no criminal record etc.

I expect my processing time should be quick, I aim for 3 months.

You are not the one aiming here. The factors that deteemine processing time are not up to you besides your role in getting all the documentation required and submitting it correctly.

Other than that, you can hope that your time in the US and Canada means they'll breeze past your background checks.

Aim for 4-6 months, it may cause a little heart burn ;).
You cannot say your case is straight fwd, the case officer has to review your application and determine.
It also depends what has been your travel history, your country of origin. These factors come into play during your back ground and security checks, which are completely different compared to criminality.

Thanks for your info.

Well, I am from Hong Kong SAR, also British National Overseas (BNO)

I got a Study Permit for Canada in 2012. I stayed in Canada until 2013.
Then I got study visa for UK in 2013. I stayed in UK until 2017.
Then I got Work Permit for Canada in 2017 (2-week processing). I am now in Canada.

All were very smooth, not a single incident at all.

I understand I am not saying that there will be an issue, but when it comes down to Background checks, and with local VOs getting involved, since you are HK native. these thing doe take some time. These BGCs are much more extensive than the processes at the time of Study or Work Permits.

I have only seen instances, where expats residing in US, submitting FBI PCCs have received PR in a matter of 20-30 days.

this is what goes in BGC: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/the-anatomy-of-a-background-check-in-depth-analysis.500146/

It is not my intent to get you in a panic mode. I am just sharing the notes so you do not get bogged down as to why your application is taking time for processing. These are all procedural topics

I learnt that the official length of time is 6 months, where the usual time of processing should be shorter than this. Why was there 1 year needed?
no clue. they processed me gile in 2 months then slacked. Wasnt even in SS
