Hi guys,

Planning to move to Canada in a few months. Could you help me out in understanding the Canadian health cover system. What are the inclusions and exclusions? What about alternative medicine like Homeopathy or Ayurveda? Are these covered too?

No - they are not covered. You have to pay for alternative medicine on your own.

Would google the provincial health plan website. Many things like prescriptions may not be covered. Glasses, eye exams, physiotherapy, private or semi-private rooms in hospital, etc. Long list. Easier to say what is covered.

Usually does work offer private health insurance or not

Used to be standard with most middle to high income job but with more and more contract jobs vs full-time jobs extended benefits are no longer guaranteed. Smaller employers will also likely find it too expensive to offer benefits.

Any idea about average plan prices for private insurances

Usually doesn't make sense to pay for private plans given. their large deductibles and limited coverage.

So what are the other options then

Anything that's not covered by the health care system you have to pay out of your own pocket. Generally this includes dental, eye (i.e. exams, glasses), prescription medication, massages / physio, etc.

I agree that most people don't take out their own private insurance to cover for these items. Either they get partial coverage through their employer (some employers provide this kind of coverage and some don't). Or they pay out of pocket.

So there is no insurances worth having to cover private clinics and hospitals

Hospitals are public. They are covered under the provincial health care system.

For private clinics, your question is far too general to answer. The answer depends on many things including what kind of services you plan to use, what kind of coverage is available for these services, what premiums you are willing to pay for these services, etc. This is something you'll really need to research on your own.

Insurance companies are obviously in the business of making money. So they aren't going to sell you a policy where they know they are going to lose money up front. This is what it's generally less expensive to pay for these services out of pocket rather than obtaining insurance.
